In 1777, Vermont abolished slavery outright in it's constitution.

In 1780, Pennsylvania passed "An Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery." It didn't free any people that were already slaves, no matter their age, but all children born to slaves after 1780 were born free in Pennsylvania.

By 1804, all the Northern states passed similar laws to Pennsylvania.

Slavery was officially abolished in all the United States when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in 1865.
