Do stretch marks fade as you lose weight?

I know that stretch marks hardly ever go away completely but they do fade, I know tricks like coconut oil but these are different. I had surgery on my leg and have gone 5 1/2 months without working out, even walking. I used to workout 6 days a week, never dieted and I still haven't which caused me to gain weight.

I have noticed stretch marks appearing on the side of my thighs, a few on my inner thigh, and now on my hips and butt. I can start working out again starting next week, my workouts are hard and usually after I recover from injuries the weight I gain drops quick. Will these stretch marks fade faster??

If age has anything to do with it, I am 19.

Update:

Thank you for the two answer I have so far! I had them on my boobs and they actually did go away all except like 2 by using coconut oil both as a lotion and mixing it in food.

These only are very light, only one section is deep and dark. They are barely appearing too? I was thinking that if my skin goes back to normal since I will get to my size they would go away...the ones that are barely noticeable

Ah stretch marks. These bad boys kicked my butt when I was pregnant. If you go back to your regular weight or close to it, your skin will stop stretching. This is the first step. Stop them before they get too messy. This won't make them go away though, the damage is already done. They will, however, fade from a dark ugly purple/red to a lighter color, then to a pink and eventually to a white that pretty much just blends in with your skin. If they're huge, your skin will feel a little different in that area for a very long time, if they're just very small slivers then they will go away almost completely. They do shrink and they do become unnoticeable. Time is the healer though. Or bio-oil, if you have the patience to slap yourself full of oil twice a day. And now someone should make a sexual joke...

Losing weight will help new ones from forming, but it probably won't do much to help the old ones from fading. Don't worry though, they do fade over time. You can buy a scar fading gel to make them fade faster. I used mederma on some stretch marks I have on my knees from growing so fast. They used to be purple, but now they have turned to white so they are much less noticeable. I think getting a sun tan on the area can also help stretch marks or any kind of scar to fade.

Afraid not my dear. You are stuck with them for life. They may fade as you get older though. AAt least you have a good excuse...I look as if I had twin but Ive only ever gotten to 11 weeks through a pregnancy and I had the stretch marks years before that! Most girls have stretch marks on their boobs, thighs and hips from puberty anyways. They don't make you less of a woman and if any man has a problem with them, you should have a problem with him!
