my BMI says i am overweight..am i?

i am 19 male i work out 3-5 times a week i am 6 foot and weight 170lbs people say im pretty muscular i have a ok 6 pack and my upper arm measures at about 13.5 in (flexing). but my bmi says im almost overweight so am i?

    According to the BMI calculator at my source, you have a BMI of 23.1. I wouldn't call that overweight, or even almost overweight.

    Furthermore, those calculators are just a mathematical formula that gives a general idea of your BMI. To get a more accurate BMI you'd need to have your body fat measured. Muscle weighs more than fat, so just inputting your height and weight can give a misleading figure if you have a higher-than-average amount of muscle mass.

    BMI is a comparison of height and weight. It doesn't take into account musculature and body composition. BMI is good as a general guideline, but there are a LOT of people who it doesn't apply to.

    Most athletes, for example, tend to have BMI scores that look high, because they tend to be muscular (like you).

    If you can see your 6 pack, you definitely aren't overweight, you have to have pretty low body fat to make the abs show.

    No! I know someone who is 6 feet tall and is skin and bones and weighs 150 and someone who is 6 get tall and just skinny not skin and bones and weighs 160 and my brother is 63 and 210 and muscular

    BMI is for the general population. For anybody in fitness, it does not apply. At all. :) The mirror and how you feel is your indicator if you are overweight.

    no it is just muscle mass. muscle weighs more then fat
