I have to get a root canal please help?
Hello, I just found out that I have to get a root canal. I have a few questions:
1) How long will it take?
2) Will it hurt?
3) Will I have to stay away from warm/hot food for a certain amount of time?
4) Will they numb my mouth or put me to sleep?
Any other information that I should know please tell me

1)-Usually about an hour but it may take more or less time depending on the tooth and the dentist preforming the RCT.
2)-It should not hurt, the area is numbed very well. You may feel a little pressure but that's about it,if at any time you feel pain, please tell the dentist right away, but its unlikely to happen.
3)Usually they tell you to refrain from eating for about an hour after the RCT,after that(If im not mistaken) you should be able to resume normal eating, but please be sure to clarify this with the dentist first.
4)-They will definitely numb the area, its unlikely you'll be "put to sleep" but if you become to nervous during the procedure you can request "laughing" gas.
Just remember to stay calm, and dont worry. It may even help to bring an I-pod so you can listen to music to distract you.Good luck and best wishes,it will be alright:)
