Important for gaming: processor vs. graphics card?

So, I've got to turn down one aspect in favor of another, so which one of these two aspects matters most for gaming and for achieving greater FPS? The thing boils down to having an i7 with 2.7ghz and a 4gb Nvidia GeForce 675M or i7 2.4ghz and 4gb Nvidia GeForce 680M, which one matters most?

Graphics card is more important. But, without a good processor you struggle with less performance.

  • There is no cookie cutter answer for this, it depends on the game you are playing. For instance Planetside 2 is a very CPU intensive game so you can have a lower end GPU and still get good graphics and a solid framerate.

Either way from what your listing, you really shouldnt have a problem with anything currently out unless it has issues with the mobile video cards. You may not be able to run it on max settings with a constant 60 fps, but you can still run anything with a stable fps unless it has issues with your hardware.

i7 with 2.7ghz and a 4gb Nvidia GeForce 675M Is better. The other laptop is even more imbalanced, with a cpu that can't match it's gpu.

But what model of cpu is it? the model is kind of more important to know than the ghz.

First one, no competitors. Not best does the processor come with a better clock, but Intel's chip architecture is forward of AMD's, making each and every clock more effective. On top of that, the 6850 is greater efficiency than the GTX 560. It's worth a further $a hundred and twenty.

Having a little less ghz wont hurt so much. If you can though i suggest just getting a one gig graphics card and spending the money on a compromise. Maybe get a 2.5 or 2.6 and keep the 680M

There's a point where the processor won't matter much.

Unless you plan on doing other tasks that require a good processor, go with the better graphics card.
