Quite popular. There are large numbers of people named after famous Margarets, such as the late Princess Margaret, and Baroness Margaret Thatcher.

Yes, a splendid big chunk of Ireland is in the UK. The bit which doesn't have to pay €3.1bn a year to the European Central Bank. There are many ladies there called Margaret, here is one. She was abused by a priest:

1 - Rita is not short for Margaret, they are two completely different names
2 - Rita is not popular at all. Aside from the singer Rita Ora, I have only ever heard of one other person with that name.
3 - Margaret was a popular name up until around the 1940s when its popularity began to decline. I don't know anyone under the age of 70 called Margaret.
4 - Ireland is not in the UK

That is their name,not Margaret
Rita may be short for Margaret,but I have never heard of it before
I have never heard of anyone called either Rita or Margaret who is under 40 years old
