Can you compare the tone quality of two speakers?
I know that the question above might be a little messed up, but, yeah, this is for a research paper. We have to compare the quality of speakers by recording waves, but we're having trouble finding a basis. Help?
Please explain in detail :D Thank you! And ideas on how to conduct experiment please? >:D<

What you want to measure is the linear/nonlinear response of the speaker.
The linear response is best captured by examining the magnitude of the
output wave as a function of input frequency.
The nonlinear response is the source of distortion - the simplest figure of merit
here is the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Just drive with a pure sinusoidal source
(or at least as pure as you can), then measure the relative power in the harmonics of the
response. This will vary with input power until it goes through the roof when you run into
saturation.
Check out audio analyser software - usually has the fft and analyser plugins to ease this.

Find the frequency of the sound wave that is coming to you. It must be in some higher harmonic for a high tone sound as compared with lower.
