best web host for small business?

I want to start a web site, with a shopping cart, for my small business. I would probably have a short blog, some video, you know...any constructive advice will be greatly appreciated!

I have being using Hostgator for many years for my online stores. They have various packages plus a great support desk.

I now use Wordpress blogs for my online stores and the script is included in Hostgator's packages. I use the paid e-commerce plugin WP-eStore for my shopping cart(it handles everything) although I have used the free version of WP-eCommerce but much prefer the former.

I usually start off with a basic hosting package then upgrade when I need more space and bandwidth.

Videos take up a lot of space and bandwidth so don't have them on your own site but rather have them hosted on Youtube or any other video hosting site. There are various plugins to display videos on your blog thar are hosted elsewhere.

It is a bad idea to host your own website if it's an eCommerce site. You will need a merchant account (unless you only use Paypal) and merchant accounts have strict requirements about meeting certain security standards. These standards usually require you to have your own server.

Just use an online shopping cart software like Shopify, BigCommerce, Volution, or any of their competitors. You pay way more monthly than you would with just a web host, but it's a better deal for you.
