EMT/EMR training questions?

Is it at all possible for a person under 18 (15 to be exact) to attend Emergency Medical Technician training or Emergency Medical Responder training? I am not expecting to get the qualification from the state nor get a job but I really would like to get the training. I live in South West Michigan if this at all helps.( I do already have advanced first aid training if anyone was going to suggest that)

Update:

I do appreciate your answer but to my knowledge there are several states that allow individuals to be EMT's as young as 16 so I have a hard time believing 18 only.

Absolutely but it depends upon what state you are in.

NJ, PA and CT are three states (there are others) which allow for 16 year old EMTs to be certified. There are also several high schools which teach the course in these states. The states which are 18 at the certifying age may also have programs for a 17 year old high school student to take the course.

Google (youtube) Darien, Connecticut high school EMTs for videos of 16 year old EMTs.

    Pennsylvania

No it is not. Your knowledge of 16 year old EMT's is false. Federal Law mandates you have a high school diploma to even attend the course. The course must have your diploma on record and available for inspection. Additionally, they must perform a background check on you.

An Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is NOT the same thing as an EMT. The EMR is a lower level of certification than EMT. It is possible for people as young as 16 to take an EMR class if they are affiliated with a fire department. The EMR is NOT allowed to give medications other than oxygen and is not allowed to be on or operate an ambulance.

There are several ambulance companies / departments that have recently been prosecuted for allowing people to take EMT that weren't supposed to take EMT.

The United States Department of Transportation sets the rules and regulations for EMR, EMT, and Paramedic. The individual state can make additional requirements but can not over ride USDOT.

Unless you are directly affiliated with a fire department you won't be accepted into any program for EMR.

EMT is minimum age of 18 regardless of what you heard. The complexity of the education requirements is such that you need to have a complete highschool education.

Here is a link to the rules and regulations for licensure in Michigan: http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,4612,7-132-2946_509...

Notice the underlined part that says 18 to be licensed. Additionally, they use the NREMT test and the National Registary wont allow anyone to take a course under the age of 18.

Concentrate on High School, take lots of science, chemistry and biology courses. Take the EMT when you graduate. The EMT is not going to go away.

15 is too young to be an EMT anywhere. Some states will allow you to take a class and obtain provisional state certification at 16, but EMTs under the age of 18 have limitations on what they can do (you must always be supervised by another EMT who is fully certified, you are never allowed to be in charge of patient care). You are also not able to take the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) exam to become nationally certified until you are 18. You must take the NREMT exam if you ever want to practice in another state, as most states require it for you to transfer your certification to a new state. Also, the training is pointless if you are never going to take the test. If you go through the training but do not take or pass the state or national exam at the end, you are not allowed to call yourself an EMT. Only those who have received certification at the state or national level are allowed to call themselves EMTs. So if you take the training but not the test, and try to help someone in an emerency afterward, you may not represent yourself to them as an EMT, because no certifying body has ever given you that certification.

Nope, one must be 18 to qualify to enter schools who train EMTs/Paramedics but check community colleges for this as they are cheaper but doesnt hurt to check and keep taking whatever classes you can pertaining to this as itll help when you go for a job and try and make friends with current EMTs/Paramedics as it helps to have an inside edge. It helped my oldest get in about 4 years ago. Good luck and happy Holidays

all the above, as you reported, ARE humane while use authentic, and in the magnificent situations. I do and characteristic used each thing different than the invisible fence. i think of that the prong collars are fairly misunderstood. they're so plenty extra humane than the way many canines are walked on a flat collar. maximum people who've doubts some prong, who take it slow to study it, and fairly attempt it out- are stunned with how properly it works- and at how humane this is. i'm no longer a brilliant fan of choke chains, i do no longer see that they do plenty, if something. I see extra canines choking themselves on choke chains, than canines who benefit any earnings from them. i pick what kit to coach my dogs in keeping with a.) my dogs's temperment b.) my very own convenience with the coaching technique c.) my very own fulfillment with specific coaching procedures d.) the point of the coaching.
