Oh and don't tell me how you would never need it because you work.... lets say a tornado destroyed where you work.... or you got sick... or any number of a thousand possibilities happened to you and you have no job no matter how hard you tried to find one.

You live within your means. You forgo non necessities so you can save for hard times. You do without so your kids can have. I grew up in a 7 person family, two bedrooms. We never got gov asst. There are times people need but there is to much abuse and waste. There should be a lifetime limit unless there are extenuating circumstances.

The same many are living today I'll come back with a link they calculate for those that know all the benefits available to them are only better off if they go to work for over $55,000 if they can't make that or more they are better off on the government tit
I pay into my daughter lunch I see many kids getting free breakfast and hear many get free lunch and after school snack I saw one hispanic man who drives a $45,000 pick up walking his kids in for their free breakfast they know how to work the system
My daughter does not want to pay in as the other kids might pick on her she wants me to do it every 30 days

Very well.
I actually fed myself on the same amount that I would have got on food stamps for two months to win a bet once. I ate well every day and had money left at the end of the month.
If people learn how to budget, how to cook, and don't blow the food stamps on crap like soda and sea food, it is easy to do.

I don't really know. I would of course look for work, but until I could find some, I would probably have to ask for help from my mother. I would do whatever I had to do. As would just about everyone.

We have savings. We work jobs that are not based on a building. We pay for long term disability through work. We have family. We live within our means.

A family of four making minimum wage has more disposable income than a family of four earning $60,000, since medical, housing, food, energy, some transportation costs are all paid with OPM. Who wouldn't rather spend their paycheck on fluff, if all your needs are taken care of by others?

By finding a job, damn it.
If my employer is destroyed, I'd survive on my SAVINGS while looking for another. If I get sick, I'd live off my disability insurance.
If you have not bothered with any of those, you can ask me for CHARITY, but you don't get to DEMAND my money at gunpoint (that is, via the IRS).
