What am I doing wrong in fantasy football?

Alright, so I have played Fantasy Football for the past three seasons (2010-2012). I have yet to have a winning season, nonetheless make the playoffs. Somethings gotta change. Im not sure what I am doing wrong. I have written out all of my past 3 drafts, along with my teams at the end of the year.

Granted, my first year playing was also my first year watching, reading about, or even saying the word “football.” My draft basically went with who I had heard of. I knew Brees because he was on the cover of Madden (so he must be good, right?!?), and I didnt know about the curse. I knew about Randy Moss because he is my cousin’s favorite player, and we all know what happened that year (Pats, Vikings, and Titans, right?). I knew Ochocinco because of his awesome name. I knew Farve, Tomlinson, and McNabb just because they had all been in the league for 50 years. I literally knew nobody else, or at least didn't recognize their names.

All the leagues start the standard QB/2RB/2WR/FLEX/TE/DST/K and use ESPN standard scoring. The 2010 league is the only one with 8 people, 2011 and 2012 both had 10 teams.

If you only started playing fantasy football 3 years ago, i wouldn't worry about it too much. I have won money in fantasy football 5 of the past 6 years but it takes time. My first few years i didn't do too well either. There are many strategies to drafting. 1. is draft RBs early and often (4 of your 1st 6 picks) 2. Draft by best available player. 3. Draft for combos (Brady + Welker, or Rodgers + Jennings) You must find one that works for you. Its a feel for the game. I change my strategy every year. It depends on the year. If there are a lot of backfield by committees I would put more value on the few RBs that get the ball all the time. eg AP, Rice. Lately in PPR leagues the WRs have been stepping up their game. eg AJ Green, Mega tron, Brandon Marshall. I think the key is waiting on a qb. If you draft Rodgers Brady Brees you are missing good value at other positions. I drafted Luck round 10 this year and rolled with him. You have to get lucky. Last year I drafted Stafford round 8 and won the whole thing because my first few rounds i got Rice, Forte, Nicks, AJ Green. There are QBs who are going to put up big numbers that you can draft late. This year for example RG III, Luck, Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Andy Dalton etc. Do mock drafts before your fantasy draft. You get a feel for when people will get drafted. I actually like your draft this year. Foster Charles Nicks Julio that's a solid start. If Nicks didn't get banged up that would be a great start. D Thomas round 7 is a steal. Also the key is don't panic if you get off to a slow start. Its not how you start the year its how you end it. You are getting it. Go back and look at your draft results and see what you could have done different with QBs and TEs. You had a good draft. Rivers just let you down and should have drafted a better TE at some point. Hope this helped.

PLAY THE MATCHUPS WITH EVERYONE EXCEPT THE BEAST WRS AND RBS AND QBS. EVERY WEEK I PLAYED A DIFFERENT DEFENSE AND TE. I ALWAYS PLAYED THE BEST QB WETHER YOU PICK BREES OR RODGERS OR BRADY. THEN BEAST RBS LIKE PETERSON OR LYNCH. WRS LIKE DEMARYIUS THOMAS. YOU ALWAYS PLAY THEM REGARDLESS OF MATCHUP. BUT WR 2 SPOT OR RB 2 SPOT. FLEX SPOT.. PLAY THE MATCHUPS. WATCH THE DEFENSES. YOU WANNA PLAY ANYONE THAT PLAYS THE SAINTS OR THE COLTS OR THE JAGUARS. SAY THE BUCS PLAY THE SAINTS. ID START FREEMAN AND MIKE WILLIAMS AND V JACK AND D MARTIN. SAY THE BUCS PLAY THE DOLPHINS. DONT START A BUC RB. START THE WR AND THE QB AND THE TE. OR IF YOU PLAY THE NINERS. I WOULDNT START ANYONE EXCEPT MAYBE AN ELITE QB. OR IF I HAD ADRIAN PETERSON. DURING THE DRAFT GRAB THE BEST PLAYERS YOU CAN RIGHT AWAY., FIRST THING BECAUSE I COULDNT GET AN ELITE QB I JUST GRABBED THE BEST RBS AND WRS I CAN. SCREW GRABBING A GREAT TE OR A KICKER OR BEARS D. THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR PLAYING FANTASY AND I HAVE A LEAGUE IM 13-1 OR SOMETHING. LOOK AT MY TEAM AND SEE HOW I DRAFTED. AS YOU CAN SEE BELOW I DONT HAVE AN ELITE QB OR TE OR KICKER OR DEFENSE. I HAVE ELITE RBS AND WRS

    QB FREEMAN AND RUSSELL WILSON

RB FOSTER, PETERSON (AS YOU CAN SEE THESE WERE MY FIRST TWO PICKS)

OTHER RBS I HAVE RIDLEY, LESHOURE, MORENO (SOON AS I SAW THESE WERE STARTING RBS FOR THERE TEAMS I GRABBED THEM ASAP

WRS ANDRE JOHNSON AND GARCON. (GARCON WAS HURT BUT I KEPT HIM CUZ I KNEW WHAT HE COULD DO WHEN HE WAS ON COLTS)

SOON AS THESE WRS CAME UP I GRABBED THEM ....ALEXANDER AND BESS

TE I HAVE RUDOLPH LOL. I KNEW THAT VIKINGS HAVE NO OTHER RECIEVERS BUT HARVIN. THEY NEEDED SOMEONE BESIDES HARVIN. NOW HARVINS OUT EVEN BETTER.

KICKERS I SWITCH BACK AND FOURTH BETWEEN PHIL DAWSON AND BLAIR WALSH. (THESE GUYS CAN KICK 60 YARD FIELD GOALS AND I PLAYED THE MATCHUPS)

DEFENSE I HAVE THE LIONS THIS WEEK GOING AGAINST AN OFFENSE THAT GAVE THE SEAHAWKS 40 POINTS LAST WEEK. I BEEN CHASING THE CARDINALS OFFENSE AND PLAYING THE D AGAINST THEM EVER SINCE THEY LOST KOLB

You don't have history with football. You don't know the players.

Need to do studying In the offseason and I'd highly recommend joining twitter and following fantasy experts
