I need serious work advice and would love some KIND advice from people that have worked in retail :(?
First off, people blow up on me sometimes on yahoo answers and get mad at me so please don't say anything rude. I'm having serious anxiety and am hoping for some help and advice, hopefully from someone that has been in retail.
I'm having a meeting with my district manager tomorrow and things my manager have done that are wrong/fraudulent/unethical.
The main reason I called her was because she was voiding out sales and putting them under someone else's name to make them have good numbers so the district will promote them. That's against policy.
I wanted to get promoted and was having a good sales day, and instead of praising me or letting our district see my excellent numbers, she manipulated it so my sales went down and another girls went up... So, all my hard work was for nothing. She voided out sales from myself and her and put them under the other girls name. This girl does a lot of bad things at work as well so she wants someone that won't rat her out when she does things like this.
Secondly, she won't train me. She doesn't want any of us to have good sales because it makes her look bad. I've asked her point blank for help and she won't help me, so I researched about our company and products for hours online to train myself.
Thirdly, she manipulates her numbers so it looks like she's making good sales when she's not. So, it's falsifying company records. She company fakes her numbers. Instead of waiting on people and seeing how good her sales are, she'll use her personal company discount, and not wait on people who won't buy things...or put things under other peoples numbers so she looks like she has good numbers. Just manipulating our computer system.
What I'm going to say is, I want you to know that I love this job and everyone that works here and I am scared to lose my job. I hope you can protect me and keep this confidential but these things have bothered me. I want you to know I'm not doing this for personal gain but rather for what is right. Then, tell her nicely, what I've seen.
My boss will be here when I meet with my district and I'm scared sick. I do love this job, i'm just seeing some things that are wrong. I don't want to lose this job and I'm worried sick. Should I change my speech or anything in any way?
Thank you!!
You're right, I think she'll be able to see it. We have something called units per transaction, like how much you sell to each person. She'll ONLY sell to friends and family, or people she knows will buy. Then toss off the regulars and people that don't buy on us. Or, she'll take care of them and if it drags down her units per transacation, she'll void it and put it under somebody elses name to drag down our numbers.
She basically only sells to people that she knows will buy, or she voids things and puts them under other peoples names.

I have been in retail and reataurant management for about 15 yrs. Idk what system your business uses, but still, numbers dont lie, no matter how you try to manipulate them. Every void she ever made, should be in the system and then show up again as the exact same sale, only under another salespersons name. A pattern emerges honey. It raises a red flag when there are to many voids and deletions in sales. ESPECIALLY if that is against company policy. The DM should know how to check this out. If your DM doesnt handle this properly, then go a step higher. The company owner!

Hey, I remember you. You're the one that works for the tanning place right? Well anyways, you did the right thing. If I was an employer I wouldn't want my employees stealing from me. Most places have rules about not being able to enforce any repercussions on someone who brings this kind of information forward. All I can say is just tell them the truth. It won't be as bad as the scenarios in your head are making it out to be.
And good luck on getting that assistant managers position later on.

These kinds of things aren't confined to retail; they happen in other businesses, too. Remember that bosses usually back their managers.
Focus the conversation on your contributions (sales), although you aren't receiving credit, and that this is your concern. It would be helpful if you had supporting documentation of these occurrences to present. It also helps to present a plan to rectify the problem at the time you voice your concerns.
Editing what you wrote: I want to speak to you in confidence regarding my concerns. I really like this job and everyone here. My concern is that my sales aren't being credited to me, and possibly neither is my work with customers. *I thought of keeping a private daily log of my work/sales, and reporting that to you in order that you might compare that to the reports you receive regarding my sales. Would that be something you might consider? (or however you want to word it) **That District Manager will be able to quickly fill in the blanks on the rest so that it doesn't sound like you're slinging mud at anyone. If you don't get any positive feedback from that Manager, you need to find another job. Just don't burn any bridges so if you leave, you can get a good reference, and be sure to get that in writing before you leave.
Good luck.

it's hard when numbers can molded to make the head rat the big cheese. All I can say is be professional and hope your boss isn't in the good old boys loop.
