TI-89 Titanium provides silly answer to factoring problem.?
if I enter factor(5*x*x+25 * y) into my TI-89 I do not get 5(x*x + 5*y) but get 5(5*y + 49). Any ideas?
Found the problem! I needed to clear the contents of the variables first.

Press [2nd] [F1] and select "Clear A-Z..." to clear all one-letter variables. Alternatively, go into the (VAR-LINK) menu and delete x in folder 'main'.
You defined x as 7 or -7 some time before you entered the problem. Typing in x should return 7 or -7. IF you find variables disappearing when they shouldn't, then try clearing out the 1-letter variables.

I took two years of calculus in excessive college (AB and BC) and AP records, and that i simplest used a TI-eighty three plus, and to be relatively sincere that's all you want, exceptionally if you're just right at math and don't want your calculator to do everything for you. That having been said, with the selections you've gotten given, go along with the TI-84 so to apply it to any scan that you are taking, no feel shopping an 89 then needing one other calculator for SAT/ACT/competitions.
