The argument that tragedies in our world happen because of the "free will" given by God?

First, I am a Christian myself and do know very well how wonderful God's teachings are.

But I do not appreciate it very much when other Christians around me present ridiculous excuses and say "everything is your fault" whenever something bad happens.

There are many Christians who say people in this world sometimes suffer because God also gave us "free will".

There are countless good Christian people who die in the hands of others against their free will. 911 WTC comes to mind.

Did each and everyone in the plane commit enough sins to deserve death?

Did they "choose" to die in that plane using the "free will" God gave them?

I would like a different explanation.

Also, this year, there was a shooting rampage at a Christian univeristy in Oakland that took away lives of 6 people. Was that their free will too?

I would like a different explanation.

I do love God and I do love other Christians around me. I never hesitate to say Merry Christmas to all Christians and non-Christians around me.

I will forever be a child of God and will be very proud to be one for the rest of my life.

I would like to explain the situation in the light of common believes in the divine teachings of Islam and Christianity. In all, it is clearly defined that

    a) God has sent the man on this earth for a DECIDED PERIOD OF TIME to see who will do the righteous deed and who will not.

    b) Death, whether on bed or due to an air crash does not matter and it should also not to be associated with good deeds and sins as all creations have to die and re-born at the Day of Judgment when God will reward the righteous persons and will punish the sinners.

    c) On the timeline of history, there are countless good people who suffered a lot of problems despite of their good believes and fair deeds. Including those are Honorable Prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Joseph and Muhammad. On the contrary, many evil personalities enjoyed and are being enjoying their lives with happiness and luxuries with not a single tragedy in their lives. This does not mean that God has no criteria of judgment. The fact behind this contradictory illusion is that these all are tests and trials arranged by the God and the results of these tests are announced at D-day.

    d) Man has granted permission to avail his will-power up to the limit set by him. He can do any thing which he wants - Good or bad. No angel appears to hold his hand while doing a wrong deed. No sharp knife is supposed to become blunt while killing an innocent person. This is because God has made all these things to work on logic. God has created the logic and God only interfere directly where He wants to, depending upon His will and strategy; and these rare cases are titled as miracles. Miracles are exceptions that are happened by passing the free will of man.

Concluding above, it is obvious that every event (including any tragedy) is controlled strategically by the will of God but it does not means that He does not care about good people to die terribly. All events happen and let to happen to judge the good and bad. God increases the faith and blessings of people with the good faith and patience on sufferings. On the other hand God decreases the faith and blessings of people with bad intentions and impatience. This concept is quoted in the Chapter 103-Surah Al-Asr of the Qur'an “I swear by the TIME, (1) Man is in a state of loss indeed, (2) Except those who believed and did righteous deeds, and exhorted each other to follow truth, and exhorted each other to observe patience. (3)”

People do not die because God gave mankind free will, but all die now because the first man exercised his free will by making the incorrect decision. We all are descendants of the first man, so we have inherited the death that he chose for all his offspring. By doing what God had clearly told him not to, Adam rebelled against God, joining Satan's rebellion. The Bible is clear that Satan is the one who causes death. God doesn't cause airplanes to crash. The world we live in now is the result of wrong decisions by mankind, but God will remedy all these things before the end of the seventh day.

You want an alternative argument, you got it. Here is what I suggest, We are responsible for our own choices. Romans 1:20 says; "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." While all people have free will, bad things happen because they misuse their power. They have freedom to choose, but go against God and sin. Thus evil happens, not because God allows it to happen, but because people choose it over righteousness. There will come when this will cease and God will make things right, but for now this world is filled with injustice.

Good on you for going deeper with this and not blaming God. The turth is He gives us free will, but we are responsible for our own choices. God bless you.

God created the people responsible with free will and other people suffer and die because of that. They just happened to be in the wrong place and died and god did not prevent the evil from taking place. So is god almighty and good?

Well I believe that one truth still unites sinners and saints. Sometimes, sh*t happens. It's not the judgment of God, it's not the temptations of the Devil, sometimes in this world sh*t just freakin happens. It's human nature to try to explain it, or find a reason for it, but sometimes there's just not one.

When they are confronted with such arguments, they tend to say "mysterious ways of god".. There is no sense about it, and I have give up looking the sense out of it and nothing happened to me.

    God gives us life.

We choose to live our lives a certain way.

Our Celestial reward comes because of our actions here on Earth.

Death does not mean punishment for the evil.

The Bible never said human beings alone are responsible for evil.

    The Devil and demons are.

We are Gods children, the Devil has no children of His own. So he is always trying to take Gods Children from Him. To do this he must trick them into committing evil deeds so that God turns his back on them. (This he must do because he has so many that he must reward the good, to encourage them to be with him in Heaven.)

You must also understand that doubting God is the WORST SIN EVER!!

So do not question HIM. You must Know on your own. TO know God is to understand and forgive.

The more seeds of doubt people like you out in peoples minds the more Evil wins.

did all that happen to job happen to him because of his free will? ans no, the devil took permission from God to attack Job remember God was even defending Job, but what Satan used as an excuse (Job 1:10) was that Job was faithful to God because God had bless him and put an hedge around him. And God permitted Satan to attack Job b/cos God was trying to prove a point to Satan, that he knows Job and he trust Job will never turn his back against him. and job never did.

secondly yes free will has cause a lot of harm. i am not blaming God for giving free will, God knows best and he knows why he gives it, b/cos there are many things we do not understand and we might not understand until we die but there is a bible verse that says (Psalm 5:4, Psalm 92:15,2 Chronicles 19:7) God is faithful and that there is no wickedness in God. yes the devil help in making human to abuse their free will remember Eve in the garden

thirdly the 911 WTC happen as a result of free will of the bombers not the free will of the victims but the bombers; the shooting where six people die happen as a result of the free will of the gun man/men who shoot the people and not the people's will this is where the devil and demon come to play the bible says (Ephesians 6:21) that, we trestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers against spiritual wickedness in high places the demon possess this killers to do evil using free will though demon possess people sometimes against their free will for example someone who deliberately go into covenant with Satan to be rich and famous allow devil to use him why the victims of the person who sing evil music using devilish signs unknown to his/her audience is messing with her audience free will the fellow is bewitching/brain wash his or her audience. in a nut shell some people give themselves deliberately to Satan/Demon to be use for evil why some are under force/bewitch,brainwash to be used for evil which could be as a result of not having knowledge about God.

this is why God hates witches so much he said in his word Exodus 22:18 do not suffer a witch to leave witches mess with free will a lot they bewitch force people to do things that ordinarily they wouldn't have done

(back to 911 and 6 victims)just because those once where unfortunate does not mean they are the worst sinners on earth or they die as a result of their sin, everybody have an appointed with God and it can happen any time in any why some are via motor accident etc depending on the person's destiny. The only thing we can pray and ask God for its long life if he wishes he granted if he feel your time on earth is over he calls you home. just compare God with our earthly parent not all that you ask your parent gives you.

There are some believer's God allow to die so that they don't witness some horror or backslide instead of them to go back to the world he could just take their life so that they would have eternal rest with him and not miss heaven. really depend on destiny.

however we need the holy spirit. holy spirit play an important role in the life of believers; sometimes due to worldly problems/pressure we do not hear the voice of the holy spirit speaking to us some people die as a result of taking wrong steps, decisions there are some places that you are not meant to be at a particular time and you will hear a voice speaking to you don't go if you go something terrible might either happen at home or where you had earlier planed to go if you had go you might not come back alive vise versa. that is before going out we need to pray and commit our activities in God's hands and let his spirit guild us

i hope you understand my explanation; God's only understand but you need to remember in every situation you are passing through that there is no wickedness in God. he is a good God

9/11 did indeed happen because of free will just like the holocaust did. Many suffered because of the wrong choices of men named bin Laden and Hitler.
