I use the regular finger nail clippers for my pigs (though I find if they are dull they don't work well with their nails). I've also used a dremel on low to file their nails down after a clipping (I have one that is hairless so this prevents any accidental scratches).
The toe nail clippers (I'm just guessing that you mean the large ones) might be too bulky to use if you also have to hold onto a wiggly pig. If you find using human nail clippers are hard to handle, you could use specialty clippers if you'd like though. There are definitely some owners that prefer to use them. I think it's more important you find a tool, whatever that turns out to be for you, you're able to use with the most accuracy so you avoid hitting the quick.

Do not clip your guinea pigs nails with a regular toe nail cutters, their nails are different than ours in shape and thickness and it could very well cause damage. What I did when I had my guineas was I just went to Walmart and bought a cat nail clipper or a small animal clippers and used that. It is a lot safer for them, it clips it properly and makes sure it clips to the proper shape as well so less damage is likely to be caused.
