Can I turn off my wireless feature on my cable modem?

I have a wireless router and cable modem combo. The wireless feature is less then perfect. It tends to drop the signal several times per day. I was going to go out and buy a new router and a new cable modem but started thinking that If I could turn off the wireless feature of the combo unit, maybe I could only buy the router and not have to get a new modem.

So can this be done with out have ip address conflicts or any other problems?

your router will have a setup menu and there will be a choice to turn on or off the wireless part.

I've had half a dozen routers over the years and they all had this.

But, you have to know the address of your router, usually 192.168.0.1

or maybe it is printed on the bottom of the router our you can google it for your router.

And then there will be a logon, usually the account is ADMIN and a password.

Your going to need a password.

If the router is at the factory default then google may have the account and the password.

Once you have got past this stuff there is just a menu, you choose wireless and usually a checkbox to turn it on or off.
