I work as a night auditor and the hotel manager won't let me lock the door?

We have a door that locks so you can get out but you can't get in without a key card,

My manager thinks its "tacky" to lock the door at night when the desk is open.

I think it's general security to only let guests in at 2am.thoughts??

Is there a working bell system? If I arrive at 2am to check in and I can't get your attention, I would be very upset.

That said, I've had to ring the bell many times.

If it is the front, main entrance to the hotel, then yes it would be tacky to lock it. People who are not checked in yet would have to wait for you to unlock the door for them. People don't travel only between dawn and dusk.
