edit: as Di said, some schools (only High schools in my area, most likely to have drugs/ guns inside them) have SRO's patrolling them.

Well, clearly those signs "Gun Free" or "Drug Free" zone aren't working. Many schools in my area have School Resource Officers who are cops. Maybe it is a good idea after all.
