New tank, potential mates?
I currently have a 36 gallon tank but am getting a new 60 gallon. I plan on transferring my senegal bichir to my 60 gallon but other thank that I have absolutely no clue what else. If it was your dream tank, with the bichir of course, what would you have? Also for the 36 gallon? Oh, I currently have a red tailed shark and a rainbow shark in my 36 gallon (they get along just fine and are both relatively large).
I've thought about maybe oscars or other cichlids. I love the idea of the african knifefish but wasn't sure how they would work with my bichir. How do you clean a sand substrate? All I've had is gravel and plastic plants.

For your 60 gallon I would personally get an African Knifefish, an African Butterfly Fish, and maybe a pair of Giant Red Tail Gourami. Your Senegal Bichir would stay near the bottom, which keeps the smaller African Butterfly safe from him. The African Knifefish is similar. The Gourami are generally mid to top level swimmers, but as long as you have a well planted tank your African Butterfly should be safe.
They all prefer slower moving waters and I would personally get a sandy substratem lots of plants throughout the substrate, some driftwood and tunnel-like structures, and many floating plants.

Personally, In my 150 Gallon Tank I have wanted a shoal of neon's for as long as i can remember. I already have 15 Neon's but, i want like 100 so when you walk to one side of the tank, they all swim to the other side. In a 60 Gallon Tank you could have about 70 Neon's if you did water changes weekly and had over filtering.
