A Mexican colleague asked me this question about the cricket ball (enclosed).what is your opinion?

He is a new initiate.

1The ball is hard and can cause injury. So why not use a softer ball?

2 would cricket be any different with a rubber ball in terms of entertainment?

Good evening and Thanks for answers and thoughts

The composition, shape and quality of the ball is very important in retaining the skill part both in bowling and batting.... a hard ball can be hurled faster in the air than a soft rubber ball and it can also be better controlled in terms of aim and direction..... similarly, provided the bat is made from the right material and well seasoned, as is the case, the hard ball can be hit faster and farther with the bat and also far more accurately as well..... the hard ball makes cricket 10 times a better game than what a rubber or plastic ball can provide.

Playing with a rubber ball would make it too easy to get high scoring hits like 4's and 6's. It would not be as entertaining because it would be so much easier.

  • OMG! they are just blind football fans, they judge a game by the entertainment. Cricket is one of the most difficult games to play, that's exactly why most men prefer playing it. But there's softball cricket played all over the world, mostly on backyards. Kids start playing cricket with soft tennis balls and then with the age they practice playing with the hard ball. And those who play hardball cricket improve their eyes, reaction time, discipline and get harder hands. I don't think football fans will understand the true value of a hard game, i tried explaining to them but when they get hit by the ball they get frightened and dumps the game.

Hi Rehman,Haneef was asking me about you a day or two ago.

As Stephanie said,it would be a run fest of boundaries if they used a rubber ball.
