So what can we do to either prevent or at least decrease tragedies like the one in Connecticut today?

There are a lot of options for us. There is gun control. I don't really like the idea of gun control, because I love freedom. But it is an option that might work. The problem is that insane criminals will be able to get guns somehow through illicit channels.

What about having a police officer at every school during school hours? What about allowing some teachers to have the legal right to carry a concealed weapon onto a school campus, provided that they have been properly trained to do so?

What are some other ideas that are reasonable and might actually work?

Even having a police presence won't prevent such tragedy. One officer will need to patrol the grounds and corridors, and someone could slip in unawares.

Prevention would seem to be the responsibility of friends and family members of those who are "not right" as many articles have put it and to ensure that that person is protected from self harm and harming others.

    We can't. Why?

America has had a violent driven culture for decades. What can we do to decrease?.... Educate. And make parents more responsible. Also, not oppose ownership, but change the laws and become strict like in Germany, France or other European countries. The ownership system is very ineffective and the easy access is just madness. Aside from stricter gun controls, and difficult legal access, the answer is to change something about our culture nationally, but that is hard.

What if that 20 year old guy had no access to any guns?.. Well... maybe those 20 kids did not have to leave the world.

Edit: Yes, he was not 21 yet and got the guns somehow. But where?.. his mother owned them. Why should a mom who teaches school own a gun?... and in one of the most safest states?.. and a military rifle as well?... I think education and responsibility should go hand in hand. With tight gun laws, or even laws where only certain people can get it, she might have not had them in the first place. Therefore, the 20 year old killler might have not had access. So yes, gun laws do matter, especially how easy it is to reach them in America.

Federal law dictates that you must be 21 to purchase a handgun. Where did this autistic psycho get these guns?

There is a starting point. Legislation didn't prevent tragedy in this instance.

The gun grabbers are likely to be able to capitalize big time on this one, unlike never before. They too will find out that their far flung fantasies are just that, fantasies.

Same with those that would advocate concealed carry for everybody. As much as we would like to envision a hyper vigilant citizenry, squashing deady threats immediately, this just isn't going to ever be reality.

The answer does not lie within the perameters of the "gun/no guns" debate, I'm afraid. If only it were that simple.

Stiffer Gun controls could decrease unregulated "Gun Show" and Online loopholes. I think the biggest hurtle is educating legal gun owners to be responsible and lock away their guns. Ironically, the mother, Nancy Lanza, was killed with her own gun, that was legally purchased. Those guns then killed 27 people, possibly, because she didn't lock them up and keep them away from a troubled son.

the real solutions are always the hardest, because they require people to be human and not robots.

if your child or spouse is showing signs of distress, help them find assistance

don't abuse your kids or subject them to ceaseless bullying

if you see your neighbor, coworker, or kids' classmates acting in a suspicious and dangerous way, inform the appropriate authorities.

if someone is exhibiting dangerous or self-destructive tendencies, they should be committed to the appropriate institution.

of course it does. it incredibly is the undertaking the words "gun administration" are transforming into poisonous in American politics, yet think of roughly it. Gun. administration. weapons decrease than administration how can that be a foul difficulty? the choice is what you have in basic terms now; weapons out of control. u . s . has grow to be the ok Corral. i'm no longer probably professional gun yet i does not go as far as to prohibit them, yet there could desire to be some degree of sanity whilst it includes weapons. i'm going to provide you an occasion quite recent one, the shooter who shot that congresswoman Gabby Giffords. He had a handgun with a 33 around clip. He grew to become into waiting to get 33 pictures off earlier some brave individual rugby tackled him on an identical time as he grew to become into reloading. Afterwards they wanted to bypass a invoice that could shrink clip sizes to 10 or 12. It grew to become into blocked, the NRA and the gun nuts screamed "2d modification rights!" and the invoice grew to become into dropped like a warm brick. that's what I recommend and what maximum folk recommend as quickly as we communicate approximately "gun administration". you mustn't be waiting to get a 33 around clip. however if for looking, objective prepare or self defence you do no longer want a 33 around clip. the only time you like one is that in case you're making plans on capturing a great style of human beings. If the criminal shrink were a functional 12 around clip, then he could have had to reload 21 bullets in the past. think of a few human beings could have been alive? or maybe in basic terms proprietor registration did you already know you'll be on a terrorist watch checklist and legally purchase a gun. Yeah examine that one two times. it incredibly is insanity. In some states you may desire to purchase totally computerized rifles. inner maximum electorate can legally purchase and intensely own of their properties protection tension fire means. in case you desire to very own a looking rifle or a handgun then i think of you are able to legitimately declare to be exercising your 2d modification suitable. in case you desire to very own the varieties of weapons issued to infantrymen then i think of you're in basic terms taking it slightly too far.

Nothing that infringes on my freedoms. The last thing we need is a reaction that gave us DHS and the TSA.
