Does a sub sandwich need to be kept cool at an outdoor picnic?
I'm throwing my sons first birthday party at an outdoor park. I will be ordering three 6 foot subs. It should be fairy cool outside already so I wasn't thinking of putting them on ice, but wasn't sure If I should or not. If I should put them on ice does anyone have suggestions on how to keep them out for the guest while keeping them cool? Thanks.

It's pretty difficult and inconvenient to ice down 18 feet of sandwich. In fact, I would dare say it is practically impossible for the average person to even consider attempting it. Since the ingredients were cool when the sandwich was first made and delivered (or picked up) you still have two or three hours to serve it before anything can start going bad. Try to work within that time frame and you should be just fine. However, I'm not sure I would try to keep the left overs with intentions of trying to serve them again the next day or later. That might be pushing your luck just a tad too far. Otherwise? No problem. Go for it. Have a GREAT party. Enjoy it without worrying about the sandwich. Now the potato salad on the other hand...... Nah, I'm just kidding with you there, Have fun.

Everything should be protected no matter what. it is a good rule of thumb to either ice them or keep them warm. your choice.
