Periods where heart beating fast and hard, anxiety, stress, depression?

I get these periods from time to time where my heart starts beating fast and hard and I can really feel it knocking. I think it is triggered by thoughts of a girl.

It started one night when I heard my friend was taking this girl out on a date. I was furious. That night I couldn't sleep a wink, my mind just drifted back to that scenario and my heart started beating like an engine. I thought it was just part of the emotion.

But now every time I think of her, my heart starts beating. Last night I woke up a couple of times because it felt like a buffalo stomping on my chest. It seems these "Heart Beating" is forming a type of anxiety attack.

Out of a medical perspective, could this be the case? What can I do to stop it.

Thank you so much.

Update:

Thanks Mattew, All though, I do have fun with this account, I am at times very serious. :)

If this is a joke account, right on.

But I'll answer it anyways. What you are feeling is activation of the sympathetic response, or the flight or fight response. It is activated by fear or intense emotions. This response evolved to allow us to fight off predators or run from danger. It causes an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, relaxes the airways, dilates your pupils and produces sweating.

Nothing medically wrong with you. See a doctor if you're concerned.

Talk to God. Trust me, it works! I talk to Him about everything, especially when I'm holding something in. He listens! It's as if He's standing right there listening
