Had wheel bearing replaced in 03 Civic. Do I need to have an alignment when this is done or wheel balance?

The mechanic didn't mention it but somebody said you should do it whenever bearings are replaced.

wheel bearings have nothing to do with alignment and it is generally not necessary to do alignment every time you work on the front end. Unless you did work on the ball joints or tie rod ends do not worry about it. If you are having a alignment problem like the steering wheel is off center or the car pulls to one side or the other by all means get the car to a shop but if it feels good going down the road and all the grinding and howling moise has sto[ed you should be fine and ready to go

I think that it's not only a good idea to have the alignment checked or done on it but I'd want the wheels balanced and the tires checked.First thing that may affect the 4 wheel alignment is tire pressure, proper tire balancing helps plus the tire quality and tread. So basically you should check tire pressures, tire wear and tear especially bec you had a wheel bearing issue, plus the tires should be balanced once a yr anyways. From there you need to find a shop that will do a 4 alignment for you but if they don't find the alignment really off they won't charge you for a alignment.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way shops do offer front end suspension/steering, rear end suspension checks free of charge. What you can do is just call around and tell them that you are just wanting to make sure the suspension/ steering is up to par. Then once they test drive and check it if any problems do exist have them show and explain the problems to you.On average here the prices for the balancing is about 12-15 per wheel, the 4 wheel alignment runs about 79-99 bucks, plus taxes.Note it's always a good idea to have the tires, steering, front end suspension etc checked once a yr , plus have a yrly alignment done, and if you add the fact you had bearing changed this is a real good time to have the vehicle checked over.

When the front hub bearing is replaced the steering knuckle is removed to press out the bearing, so it would be a good idea to have the alignment checked.

Its sometimes a good idea in that maybe one of those items way have caused the wheel bearing to fail. Or maybe not but you wont know unless you check. So most if the time it is wasted money. Maybe next oil change ask them to rotate tires and ask them while they have them off could they check the balance. Not much more work at that point. May not event charge you for them balance check.

Sorry, I'm not here to answer your question but I have a favor to ask you.

I'm looking into buying a 03 civic myself and was wondering how the car was working for you? Everything running pretty well overall etc.

Sorry again for intruding without contributing.
