A Way To Make The Hobbit an Lord of the Rings MUCH Shorter?

I'm not saying at all Lord of the Rings are boring. They are quite long. But that's how Tolkien wrote.

I thought of a way it could have been much much shorter. The characterd especially Gandalf, could have destoyed the ring quicker and not as many people had to die.

Why couldnt the eagles fly Frodo over to Mt Doom?

Yes, the fell beasts would have attacked but the eagles can take them.

And yes in The Hobbit they have to ask Elrond how to read the map. The eagles could have flown them to Riverdale. And yes they still have to kill Smaug the Dragon to reclaim Erebor. But the eagles could have at least flown them that far.

Thoughts?

Is there an actually reason why this couldn't happen using the laws of Middle Earth? Besides you won't have much of a movie.

Update:

If Eowyn can defeat a Nazgul and the fell beast he was on the a flock of eagles could take them on.

Plus the eagles were already taking on the fell beasts at the battle at the black gate.

Yes you are correct Frodo needed Gollum to show him the way but not if he had an eagle.

    It was nesting season?

I think they should have a deleted scene of Smaug having the Eagles for dinner after barbecuing them and giving the leftovers to the men of Laketown by dropping it in Long Lake.

Funniness aside Frodo would have a big problem trying to ride Gwaihir while the latter is battling a fell beast, the Ring would literally fall back into the hands of Sauron in a splat landing. Even if he did manage to make it to Mount Doom, how would Gandalf safely convince Frodo to throw it into Mount Doom with the Halfling succumbing to the Ring's temptation and possibly dooming the mission?

I'm sorry, but the eagles could not have outfought the Nazgul. Not even close. If all the elves and men couldn't defeat Sauron, no way the eagles could.

Besides which, you would still have the problem of how to get Frodo to destroy the ring. He couldn't do it on his own. It required Gollum, though no one except perhaps Gandalf could have foreseen this.
