Is there a story based off The Iliad and/or The Odyssey set in the modern era?

I have a big but hopeful project that must be done and make a change for me. Anyway. My story will consist on parts of the Iliad, Odyssey, and small parts of ancient history involving the Roman Empire, only it takes place on earth, two centuries from this one. Is there a story similar to The Iliad and/or The Odyssey that isn't world mythology? I'm just curious to know.

    Well in the left side of the picture there's a guy in a boat. So i think maybe the girl wanted to spend some times with her dad by fishing but something arose or maybe he just wanted to be alone so he went out fishing by himself and she's fishing just to feel close to him. The no shoes are a symbol for comfortability or poverty. The only entertainment in that town could be fishing. Just a thought
