What is more stimulating for your brain? Silence (thinking) or listening to music?

I have a relatively easy job, in which there is silence for hours on end, I am wondering what is better for my brain, to quietly think about life, the world etc etc, or listen to music? You would think the music would stimulate your brain somewhat, but I picture my grandfather who never listened to music or the radio or anything and he was a very smart & worldly man who had alot of interesting things to say.

Bach has been used therapeutically by music therapists because of the harmonics and meditation is also good for you - if you take fifteen minutes twice a day to do any kind of purposeful silent meditation your cretaivity increases teh minute you come out its like your brain really zizzed on the little rest.

I'd say it was personal but interesting little piece of research you could have there .

With music, life is all about FLOW, complete silence usually stalls your train of thought(it's why listening to Mozart was recently proven to improve your IQ by 8-15 pts, which is a lot).

If your brain-waves can harmonize thinking becomes easier, because you have a flow to follow.

It depends on the kind of music. Some music can evoke great thought and feeling, whereas other kinds of music (classical, for example) will relax you.
