Is my dog just sick from his new food, or is it something worse?
My dog is a little on the heavy side and the vet recommended last summer to try to slim him down, so I bought food for him that would help him lose weight. I mixed it in with his food because he usually has a hard time getting used to a new brand. However, this week I got to the bottom of the mix, where some of the food is a bit older. Also, earlier this week my mom gave him the leftovers of a steak bone that was covered in barbecue sauce (I told her not to). Friday night he kept needing to go out to poop about 5 times, and then again last night. He's been having the runs for the past day, and recently he's been having diarrhea. About ten minutes ago he had liquid diarrhea, and there was blood mixed in with it. I read that when this happens in dogs it usually means their stomach is upset, but I'm starting to get worried. Is he just having a real bad stomach ache, or is it something worse?
Furthermore, my dog is 3 years old and a mixed breed, and what I read was that if they poop blood, it's usually cancer only with older dogs.

Blood in stool isn't necessarily life or death. If he is pooping only blood , then yes go to a vet immediately. Get a can of 100% pure pumpkin puree and give him half a can with no kibble for one meal and then mix the other half of the can with half the amount of kibble you would normally feed him. This will clear up the diarrhea very quickly. Vets recommend this more than rice. Blood mixed in with the stool is usually a sign of straining to go and is not life threatening. Also keep fresh water available 24/7 because diarrhea tends to dehydrate dogs very quickly! Good luck!

This should be OK if your dog isnt used too BBQ saus then that might it or the new even tough you do mix oh and mixing isnt very helpfull cause then his normal food tastes diffrent and when hes of the slim food he'll find the normal (without mix) taste funny, just give him less food and take him for longer walks more often, if you dont like other people feeding your dog just tell them or this may happen more often and it could cause (maybe) damage, if this stay for too long, take your dog to the vet

Generally, when a dog has an upset stomach, the best thing to do is give them rice to eat. It helps to settle the stomach.
However, when there is blood in the stool, this is a very bad sign and can indicate a serious problem, therefore, you need to take your dog to the vet ASAP.
Good luck and I wish him well :)

you are best to call the vet
with a steak bone it is bossible that he has a large piece either stuck or possibly a sharp piece that may have cut the intestines
he could have internal bleeding
could also be as simple as a stomach virus
but again best to call the vet NOW
if neccesary get in touch with an emergency vet
