Was your 2nd baby bigger than the 1st?

My friend wants more children but she's afraid to because her first was 10 pounds and she's assuming her next is going to be bigger, I'm trying to get it in her head that that's not true in all cases and that the 2nd baby isn't ALWAYS bigger. My first was 8 pounds and my second was 6.

You usually have your biggest baby first. My first baby was 8 pounds in 12 ounces. My second baby weighs 7 pounds and 1.1 ounces. not a big difference but she was smaller than the first 1. so tell your friend don't be scared her body knows what to do. Good luck

It's not always the case that the second babies are larger. Mine was 8 ounces larger, but there's just no way to tell a woman what her experience will be. Did your friend have gestational diabetes? That would be a factor in having a large baby. But so could just eating lots of sugary, fatty foods. A tall, large framed woman COULD also have larger babies.

However, a pregnant woman can help her body have a perfectly healthy pregnancy and baby by eating the right kinds of food while pregnant. Less breads and sweets, more lean meats and veggies. Not dieting, just making good food choices.

There is no reason to think the second baby will be bigger.

My first two babies were exactly the same size at birth - 7lb 15oz. My third was 5lb 14oz - he was tiny!

My first was 6lbs 6oz and my second was 6lbs 13oz, so just slightly bigger. I have a friend whose first child was 10lbs 8oz, her second and third were 8 pounds and change.

you're right, it isn't true. Most people I know who's baby's birthweights I know and had more than 1 child had their biggest baby first.
