    The slope of y = 2x- 4 is 2.

    ==>

    The slope of new line must be 2.

    y - Y = m(x - X)

    m = 2

    (X,Y) = (5,3)

    y - 3 = 2(x - 5)

    y = 2x - 7

    y=2x-7

    if the new equation is going to be parallel to y=2x-4 that means they must have the same slope. Well, y=2x-4 is in the form y=mx+b were m is the slop.

    so substitute 5 for x and 3 for y into y=mx+b and you will get 3=2(5)+b

    now solve for b and you should get b=-7

    now plug be into your equation and you will be y=2x-7.
