Why do people want guns?
What if a magic pink unicorn that eats humans and can only be killed by only non-gun wielders broke into your house and decided to kill your entire family? Would you rather be armed, not call the cops, and the cops arrive a month later to investigate the strange smell your neighbors reported? Or would you rather not have a gun so you can at least have a chance in defending yourself?

I've known some gun owners who want to own guns for hunting or marksmanship practice for fun.
All the rest I've known seem to be compensating for something.

Option A =
Call 911 and hope somebody answers. Assuming they do, hopefully the police will show up within 10-15 minutes.
Option B =
Shoot the criminal who broke into your house and THEN call 911 for them to come help clean up the mess.
