Ok, my christian friend had a baby boy!?

As great as that is though, i can't get too attached. When do you guys think I should tell her to sacrifice him so she'll get into heaven?

Exodus 22:29?

Update:

Sorry gunther, I don't get it. I just reread exodus 22, it seems pretty self explanatory.

Update 2:

What about Abraham and Isaac, sounds like sacrifice to me...? Even if he didn't make him do it anyways.

WHAT?!?!?! I hope you aren't serious. *facepalm*

You dont take it literally. and that was the old testement... times have changed. When Jesus died for us, that cleansed our sins. Before Jesus, they had burnt offerings to COVER their sins. When Jesus died for us, he CLEANSED/TOOK AWAY our sins. Please dont take everything the bible says seriously. We all sin and make mistakes, but we dont have to freking sacrifice kids to get into heaven. Come on!!

You just have to accept Jesus as your lord and savior, and follow him. Go to church adn learn the right stuff before you go taking things literally.

I dont mean any of this in a bad way, but Really?!?!

you seem confused. That's what happens when you are taught or convinced of a certain religion.

Im not convinced at all to believe all the jibber gabbish in what you call a bible. I was raised around it but i never believed any of it.

If you believe everything it says then read where your bible tells you not to judge others. If you tell your friend to sacrifice or she isn't getting into heaven that is you being the judge of what will happen to her life. is that really fair? read the whole bible and you will see how it just doesn't make a lot of since and its contradicting.

People who read that bible get sucked in and confused and often do the things the bible says not to do.

LOL, I love when people poke fun at the bible by using Old Testament examples, but for the sake of being bored at work I'll entertain you.

When reading scriptures like this if you really want to get a understanding of it, you have to do a little homework on who the audience was that God was talking to. But I don't expect you too because when a lot of skeptics are hit with the truth they do not like it.

Second this was written in the Old Testament/Old Covenant, when Jesus Came to sacrifice himself for our sake, because he loves us so deeply he became the New Covenant/ultimate and final Sacrifice. There are several Laws and even genocide in the Old Testament that seem ridiculous too us today, but that was because before Jesus came and died for us (true love) we were still subject to Gods wrath and judgment.

Oh look! Another atheist that thinks he's clever by quoting scripture out of context! WHO KNEW you could do that?!?!?

This does't advocate sacrificing children, numbnuts. Read the whole thing.

    =====

Show me where the word "sacrifice" is contained in that verse.

The Jewish people had a ritual whereby the firstborn son (Jesus was a firstborn son, by the way), was dedicated to God in the Tabernacle or the Temple. This is what that verse is talking about. It's a tradition that continues today in Christian churches with baby dedications.

There's no an indication in the text that this is sacrifice. There's no historical record of sacrifice. There's no historical evidence of sacrifice. There's quite a lot of evidence AGAINST sacrifice.

So you're either ignorant or deliberately stupid. Read Exodus 23:1. It applies: "Do not spread false reports."

If Gunther doesn't think the Old Testament advocates infant sacrifice in the oldest of it's traditions, then he is both reading it with rose-tinted glasses and ignoring the archeological evidence.

Isaiah 30:33 - "For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it."

    Joshua 22

22 The Lord God of gods, the Lord God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if it be in rebellion, or if in transgression against the Lord, (save us not this day,)

    23 That we have built us an altar to turn from following the Lord, or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the Lord himself require it;

24 And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the Lord God of Israel?

25 For the Lord hath made Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no part in the Lord: so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the Lord.

26 Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice:

27 But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the Lord before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the Lord.

28 Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.

29 God forbid that we should rebel against the Lord, and turn this day from following the Lord, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the Lord our God that is before his tabernacle.

30 And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them.

31 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the Lord is among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against the Lord: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the Lord.

    "What about Abraham and Issac?"

    Genesis 22

7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

    John 1:29

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

    John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

You must have an issue with reading comprehension. I don't see where it says to sacrifice him.

    Is it dyslexia?
