Jehovah Witnesses why the lack of compassion towards the victims in Newtown, CT?

Many of my JW contacts have been telling me that at the meetings since the tragedy in Newtown CT, the victims were not remembered in the prayers that both start and end the meetings. In one of the congregations even the prayers of the circuit overseer didn't ask for confort or help to the affected families.

I'm sure that many individual JWs did remember the victims in their prayers, but why the lack of interest at a higher level inside the organization?

Update:

All of you answers are so idiotic. Let me clarify things for you:

1 - I am no longer a JW

2 - Most of my family is still a JW

3 - Many of my friends and contacts are still JWs

4 - Some of the people mention in point 3 are only still in to maintain apperances like i was for a while

5 - If this is not true, simply think of your own congregations. Although you say it's not true, only one of you mention that in your own meeting, the victims were mentioned.

6 - Am i am apostate? Sure. I left, so that makes me one. So what? How does that make this any less truthful? It doesn't. Stop burying your heads in the sand.

Following response from JW's who did respond. Reas and reconsider your lie

    Good Morning All,

I just had to find the Kingdom Hall closest to the shooting area of the Sandy Hook Elem Sch. and just a few minutes ago, 12:53pm December 15, 2012, I called and spoke with an elder from the Danbury, Ct Hall, five miles from the shooting – he reported that the circuit overseers from the area had a special meeting with the two congregations in the area as to how to effectively handle this crisis.

First: there were no witness children involved.

Second: 155 publisher went out this morning prepared to bring comfort to local neighbors as well as working their way to the actual town of the tragedy. WHAT A FINE RESPONSE FROM THE LOCAL CONGREGATION TO TAKE A MESSAGE OF COMFORT OUT, IN SUCH AS SAD TIME.

So we are most certainly involved. So sorry for your bad expierences.

  • The context of our prayers are apropriate to the setting. Since they are from the heart, we say certain things depending on the circumstances and location. For example a ersonal prayer would not be the same as a public prayer. Even a personal prayer can vary. The prayer I make when I wake up is diferent than when I go to bed. The one I make when I eat is diferent than the one I make to talk to Jehovah about a problem.

So you see, I'm sure that many JW have personaly made prayers about the situation and for the families of those affected by this situation in Newtown, CT. However, there is a time and a place for everything.

(Ecclesiastes 3:1) 3 For everything there is an appointed time, even a time for every affair under the heavens

First, I doubt very much you have REAL witnesses in your contacts, since for the most part, you are against us - this question for example. And second, none of us would say such a thing to someone who is not for us and also because they know the reason why prayers are not offered!

Sadly this horrible thing that has happened, is not something unique. It is in effect saying that what has happened here is far worse than anything that is going on at the same time (but does not get media coverage). One could say: well if you are going to pray for that, then why can't you pray for this and this and this and what would happen is that the prayer would become never ending! So the brother would say that this is an example of what we are praying for to end for we know well why it is happening and have the absolute faith that things like this is going to end very soon.

There is no lack of interest, just because a prayer is not offered. In fact, this will no doubt be in our magazines soon as was the 7/11 etc.

Feeling bad and offering hope for the future is the way to show love and empathy. I for example have filled in a petition for flowers and cards to be sent.

I can personally not read about it for I have seen some images and it just makes me well up with tears.

Perhaps this will cause people to listen to us.

Who says that JW;s don't have compassion towards the victims and their families in Newtown, Ct?

Do you not have anything better and more productive to do with your time, than to lie on the Witnesses?

    How dare you!!

I doubt if you even know one JW, let alone have any contacts. ~sigh~

If you really believe what you're saying is true: then why don't you visit each individual congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and the organization, and get first hand information to your question instead of going by hearsay, or just an outright lie!

Do you know how many Witnesses there are? Do you know how many meetings we have every single week? THOUSANDS, my friend, THOUSANDS. You don't know if there aren't ANY congregations that didn't pray for the family of the victims. It's impossible to find that out or not.

But why are you signaling out JWs? What about the other religions such as Catholics, Baptists, Adventists, Mormons, Muslims, Islam, Jewish, etc. What about them? Shouldn't you ask them that question to?

My point is ~ It's impossible to know who did and who didn't. But at the end of the day, it's not like we're *obligated* to make a public prayer for them. I'm not saying I don't care, or have any compassion for them, but I'm just saying, there's no law that says we have to. Same goes for other religions, as well, so don't single out the Jehovah's Witnesses exclusively.

And for those of you who said we're an "evil, cold cult" ~ if that were the case, then we wouldn't be knocking on your doors, just wanting to have a friendly chat about the Bible, now would we? Would we be NEUTRAL in wars and conflicts if we were evil and cold? What about being notorious for being clean, honest, friendly, peaceful, up-right people? Wow, we must be REALLY evil and cold.

Don't parrot information you know nothing about.

    ~ Sincerely,

    A L E X

I am one of Jehovah's witnesses and I can assure you that we have been praying for all of these victims and their families! I can't imagine how terrible the pain is of losing a child or family member. I can't speak for every Kingdom Hall and how and what they specifically choose to pray for. But we truly want to share the good news of the message of Jesus Christ and how he opened the way as the Messiah for a relationship with GOD, as well as a personal relationship with Jesus as our King in Heaven! These families are going through pain and heartbreak. Just because some churches , Kingdom Halls , and other religious places of worship have not specifically publicly said prayers out loud doesn't mean in our homes and hearts we haven't said our own prayers for these victims and families of the victims! So please let's focus on helping and praying for all of these families the most important thing instead of who is praying for what and where! I can assure you that our family is heartbroken for all involved and have kept them in our prayers! We according to the Bible are to pray for and love everybody! Matthew 22: 36-40.......

When the brothers make a prayer from the platform they pray for all people that are going through trials and tribulations, Newtown, China, Russia, Africa not by name but by mentioning as a whole, i cried about the children but i also cry about the thousands of others they loose their life on a daily bases, and the Jehovah Witnesses that in prison and being tortured and beaten and killed just for what they believe. Do You pray for them.

For the guy that said jws are a cult, he must have mistaken them for the church that's giving it's members concealed weapon training.

This bible verse comes to mind after reading your question.

Matthew 6:5-6 ..Also. when you pray, You must not be as the hypocrites: Because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. Truly I say to you, They are having their reward in full. 6. You, however, When you pray, go into your private room and , after shutting your door, Pray to your Father who is in secret: then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you.

You don't have to pray in front of a crowd if you don't want to. Maybe those witnesses are praying in private and being sincere about it. Just because you and the rest of the world doesn't know whether or not, doesn't mean it isn't so. Like other's have said a prayer is personal, it's between you and Jehovah, and I guarantee you those witnesses care about what has happened. Ppl always try to find something on the witnesses just to prove that they're wrong , that's not right.

    Have a great night!

What my reliable pal contained in the corporate ought to no longer understand is that maximum of his JW "friends" had "no organic affection, weren't open to any contract, proud/headstrong and ever studying, yet under no circumstances waiting to come back to the files of the fact". He theory that "a real spouse is loving always and there for at the same time as there is misery". apparently no longer. Allegiance to WT coverage (i.e. twisted scripture) is extra major than "loving thy neighbour". The friendship is amazingly conditional - do not insult their leaders or they're going to devour you up ;) in case you do not keep on with JW protocol, you're not any more showing love for Jehovah. in case you discuss how they have twisted scripture and emphasised the incorrect things you receives stated as a "pathetic little whiner". if you're outraged and incensed through the falseness and shortage of actual love you're considered weak and under no circumstances difficult-center adequate to be a JW. The mark of Jesus' followers in accordance to JWs: John 13:35 (NWT) - "you'll recognize my disciples by way of their superb information of the bible (their ability to slap human beings contained in the face one scripture after yet another and truly educate how a lot they recognize), by way of their being sticklers to guidelines and coverage (overlook all that delicate love, mercy and forgiveness stuff...that is purely a demonstration of weak spot and compromise/mediocrity)" Matthew 7:16 (NWT) - "you'll recognize them by way of their culmination (fruit definition = no longer who you're and how properly you're taking position Christian characteristics, yet what number JW converts you're making)"
