Cat bite, please respond ASAP!!!?

I was bitten by a cat while I was volunteering at the shelter today. It didn't seem very serious, but when I got home (about twenty minutes later), it was swollen. I cleaned it, soaked it in hydrogen peroxide, and applied neosprin on it. I'm allergic to cats. Will I be okay?!

Update:

I have taken an antibiotic.

Update 2:

I have taken an antibiotic.

A certain amount of swelling is part of the normal inflammatory response, which means some of it is normal to the cut's healing process, but an allergy would not show itself that way anyway.

The allergic reaction that is of most concern has symptoms of hives breaking out all over the body, feeling flushed and feverish, confusion, swelling in the mouth and throat, tingling sensations in the tongue and difficult or painful breathing.

If you experience any swelling in the throat, tingling of the tongue or shortness of breath you need to call 911, b/c the symptoms are part of a life-threatening emergency for which medical intervention is necessary to reverse the effect.

Anything else you can watch to see if it worsens and call the doctor about it.

I would also ask a doctor how to be around an allergen on a continued basis if you want to keep working with something you know you're allergic to. Without getting desensitizing shots, the allergy usually worsens and can reach alarming proportions. Which involve the symptoms I mentioned in the first paragraph.

Cats and household bite are infectious. Glad you washed the wound, it will reduce your chance of serious infection. Don't worry about the swelling, go to the nearest clinic and have the wound dressed. Your doctor may prescribe short course antibiotics and antihistamines if the allergy worsens the swelling. The doctor may give you tetanus booster, and in some cases anti-rabies vaccines.

That's bad luck. As long as you keep it clean and are up to date with your tetanus shots you will be fine. You have no need to worry about your allergies as it is the cats hair that cause these prolems. If it makes you feel any easier then take a couple of antihistamines. Don't worry, you will be ok.

You should be ok as you have done things to clean up the injury.. if you start to get a rash or if the swelling gets worse then its best to go to the doctor. Rather safe then sorry :)
