Another question about Dec. 21st 2012..?
I know there's alot of questions about this. I seen a video where NASA was saying that nothing is going to happen on Dec. 21st 2012. But I've always been afraid that they could just be lying to us to avoid panic. So now I'm worried about that. And why do you think they posted the video 10 days before the day, why not a long time ago when people we're just as worried as they are now? I know there's people who don't believe this at all, then there Is some who do. Also why is 2012 a way bigger deal than any of the other "dates"? They have commercials kind of saying "IF were here the next day" but at the same time there making a joke out of it. It just seems bigger.
I also forgot to ask that "what time" is this suppose to take place on that day If I live In florida?

NASA is a space agency. They are not funded to debunk hoaxes. It has never been their job and it never will be their job.
Historically when one peers into past hoax dates, they coincide with poor intellect levels of the society. Currently in America math and science knowledge scores are far behind the rest of the world. The result is a population which prides itself upon beliefs instead of facts. Belief in the paranormal and hoaxes and new age cults skyrockets. Facts are either ignored or cast away as lies if they seem to conflict with beliefs.
2012 is bigger than past hoaxes because of current poor educational standards in the sciences and because of the internet which persons with low intellects seem to have a difficult time telling which websites are factual and which are fake.
While hoaxes are a real problem, it is not uncommon for a person of science to see how ridiculously idiotic they are. It is then a challenge to not ridicule both the hoax and the believer. NASA has posted information and conference video years ago debunking this crap even though they never had to do so.
Debunking hoaxes is not the task of any government agency. There is no time to waste on such foolishness. It is up to you as an individual to conduct proper research before believing in anything. If you are lacking facts to support any and all of the 2012 hoaxes I would strongly recommend choosing not to place your belief in them before casting aspersions that NASA or governments worldwide are involved in some type of massive cover-up.

The first link is of a document from 13 Nov. That's over a month ago.
And it's an update of a page that's been up for more than a year.
All this 2012 doomsday cr*p is 100% made up stupid bullsh*t. There's not one fact behind any of it.
One example; If a planet like body were going to hit us, we could see it in the sky, without any scopes or binocs, months before. Professional *and* amateur astronomers could have spotted it years ahead.
And, in case anyone wants to suggest 'oh, they weren't looking', that's pure bullcrap. Clyde Tombaugh found Pluto, several BILLION miles away, all on his own, with far smaller telescopes than we have many of today.
2012 was just a bad movie, and scams by people scamming willful fools. Don't be one of those.

Yes, they could be lying.
But NASA is not the only space agency on Earth. There are thousands of astronomers around the world that don't work for NASA - do you really think that ALL of them can keep a secret like that?
The reason 2012 is a "bigger deal" is the internet and social media make it a bigger deal. Kids today don't actually know any science so they rely on whatever they read on Facebook or see on Youtube. Since none of what they see or read is accurate is obviously lost on them.
Its a HOAX - intelligent people figured that out years ago.

The Doomsday theory is a modern theory for why the ancient mayan long count calender ends on dec 21 2012.We have nothing from the ancient mayans saying it's a doomsday, nor is their any evidence of this today. The media heard the doomsday theory and blew it up to global proportions

Do you really believe that NASA or anyone else could hide a "rogue planet" that is supposed to hit us tomorrow? It would be the biggest thing in the sky and we would have all seen it for ages!
Here is the truth:
The planet Nibiru will NOT crash into the Earth on that date, because it doesn’t exist!
If anyone thinks I’m wrong, then I’m willing to bet them £10,000, which they can pay to me on December 22 when it’s obvious that these “predictions” are proven to be false.
The impact of Nibiru was first announced back in 1995 by Nancy Leider, except she didn’t say it would hit us in December 2012 - the date she gave was May 15, 2003! Of course nothing happened, and she later announced a new date. Nothing happened then either, and then she heard about the 2012 story of the Mayan calendar and said it would happen then. It is obvious that this is all total rubbish and she is making this up as she goes along.
Leider claimed to have this knowledge by means of an implant in her brain, which allows her to receive messages from extra-terrestrials in the Zeta-Reticuli star system, which is a double star about 39 light-years from Earth. So firstly, how was this implant installed, and by whom, and secondly, any messages that she receives are coming from a star that is about 30º south of the southern-most star that can be seen from Nancy’s home in California. So if the star is never above the horizon, how do the messages reach her through solid rock?
We’re also supposed to believe that the astronomers on a planet around that double-star could detect planet Nibiru going around our star 39 light-years away, and yet although we have confirmed over 500 planets orbiting other stars, including one over 21,000 light-years away - almost a quarter of the distance across the galaxy - we haven’t seen Nibiru, which is supposed to be in our own back-yard!
To arrive on December 21, 2012 from a distance of the orbit of Pluto, it would have to be at that distance around December, 2003. That's over 6 months *after* the arrival date of May 2003 that Nancy gave us.
Of course, if it did exist, and was going to hit us a few days from now, it would currently be less than the distance of the Moon! Assuming it is “only” the same size as the Moon, we would have been able to see it with the naked eye for ages. All around the world are millions of amateur astronomers, and there are also huge telescopes - yet no-one has seen this thing because it isn’t there.
Actually, something interesting will happen today, on December 20. At 12 minutes past 8pm it will be 20:12 on 20/12 of 2012 :) [That's using UK formatting for the date - DD/MM]
If you want to book a space presentation on real science, or to place a bet with me about these claims, write to jstone@spaceflight-uk.com
So, nothing particular will happen on December 21, apart from the Winter Solstice and loads of people realising that they been daft to to believe this nonsense! Oh, and a group of us are meeting up at a restaurant to have a celebratory 2012 Apocalypse Survivors' Dinner :)
Source(s): Have some fun reading about previous predictions of the end of the world - all of which have totally failed to come true. http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm NASA has produced a video for everyone to watch on December 22 :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3o9udHJZxk I have a page on my website at http://www.spaceflight-uk.com/ Follow the link under "The end of the end of the world"! - Anonymous8 years ago
If you choose to distrust authority and believe they are lying, then I guess you have no choice but to live your life in fear! How can anybody help you when you think the voice of reason lies!
I don't actually understand the last part of the question. What seems bigger?

I don't know why they picked 2012. I guess because they've seen that strange weather has been somewhat happening more often this past year.
- PaulLv 78 years ago
It's not going to happen therefore there is no time for it to happen.
It will be obvious on Saturday who is the liar.

It probably has something to do about the Nibiru theory. My theory is that they calculated the fastest speed Nibiru could be moving at and the time that they could be able to see it according to that. I'm gueesing the outcome was 10 days then.
