You're probably gonna get a lot of people saying Twilight, the Hunger Games, and Harry Potter. Don't fall into that bull. A great author is Lois Duncan. All her books are well written with great suspense, some more than others, and none of her books are a letdown. I suggest starting off with Down a Dark Hall. Other great ones are, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Stranger To My Face, and Killing Mr. Griffen. Check them out!

Alyssa,
I would try James Patterson. He writes some tremendous mysteries and suspense books. He also writes short chapters so you can stop at the end of a chapter when you're eyes get tired. Start with his early works. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.
