What kind of weapon did Julio Gonzalez use to kill 68 people in a NYC nightclub in 1990?

Update:

There were NO military weapons involved in the CT shooting. Civilians who don't know the difference should have the grace to stay out of the discussion.

Military weapons or "assault rifles" by definition can fire full-auto, like a machine gun. The one in CT was a very common hunting rifle, period, just tarted up to RESEMBLE a military weapon. It fires one shot at a time, just like Grandpa's deer rifle made in 1932.

Update 2:

Contrary to "Abused," who doesn't seem to know much about guns or hunting, my grandfather's Remington Model 8, in .35 caliber, was made in 1932, but had been in production since 1908. It has taken elk, moose, & grizzly, and is far more powerful than any Bushmaster. It came standard with a 5 round magazine, but 15-round like mine was an option -- essential when a pack of 20 or 30 coyotes is tearing one of your calves to pieces.

But it's not black and scary-looking so probably wouldn't make liberals tremble in fear.

A plastic bag of gasoline and two lit matches. It was arson. Actually, 87 people were killed; not 68.

I completely agree that possession of guns have nothing to do with reducing crime rate or preventing lunatics from committing mass murders. Gun rights is good for the law-abiding citizens, and it has nothing to do with mass shootings; these are performed by lunatics.

Apples and Oranges. As for the Bushmaster is no "Grandpa's deer rifle made in 1932", if you knew anything about firearms you wouldn't be saying it. Grandpa's rifle was most likely a bolt action Winchester, far cry from a Bushmaster. Mr. Lanza shot his way through the door with said Bushmaster. He had multiple large clips (I think they were 30 rounds each). He could squeeze out 30 rounds just by pulling the trigger 30 times. After a single shot of Grandpa's rifle he would have to reload. The delay caused by this would have saved many lives.

And if you need a semi-auto, high powered weapon with a large clip to hunt, you are one sorry a$$ hunter.

A can of gasoline and two matches.

It was a case of arson.

    EDIT:

While this crime had nothing to do with guns, how many people are killed with guns every single day???

How many major shootings have we had just this year?

Guns DO matter! They make it far easier to kill a lot of people quickly.

Yeah, this fire killed a lot of people. But we didn't see several major cases of arson that year!

There have been mass murders in Europe, but far fewer and usually with a lower body count.

When there was a major case of mass murder in Scotland in 1996, the gun laws were changed right afterward. Gun deaths dropped immediately!

Let's have some sensible gun laws for a change!

EDIT: The original reports of the shooting got many details wrong. They were based on stuff the news media was hearing, often people who didn't actually have reason to know anything. One of the things they initially got wrong were the kinds of guns he used.

But on Sunday, the police gave a press conference, and a more complete version of events. At that press conference, they said he had 2 handguns, PLUS a Bushmaster AR-15, which is a semi automatic assault weapon.

There WAS a hunting rifle - he left it in the car.

    Read more recent news stories.

    3rd EDIT:

YOU seem to know nothing about how to read a news story!

Often in cases like these, there is false information that comes out at first, as the news media rush to cover the story. Then, once the fog clears, details emerge or are cleared up.

THIS is what happened in this case. The news media had the wrong name attached to the shooter (thought he was his brother.) They said his mom worked at the school (she didn't.)

AND - they misidentified the weapons at first!!! The media said he had a hunting rifle and a handgun at first. BUT by SUNDAY, when the police actually had a proper press conference, they correctly stated that he had two handguns AND a semiautomatic rifle - NOT a hunting rifle. The hunting rifle was left in the car!!!

BEFORE you lambaste others, make sure you have your OWN story straight!!!! READ the news. Don't just overhear it!

Many are caught up in the specific details of each weapon involved. Suffice to say to a weapon of some sort was used. The bad guy if he can not use one thing will find something else to do the deed. Maybe it is time to start looking at the "bad guy" and getting him/her some help before they think killing a bunch of school children is the answer. Does it really matter with what gun he shot each child with?

As you bring up the terrible consequences of another weapon used in the past it will not be a simple fix. More important to find and stop the bad guy before he takes his weapon of choice to do the awful thing he/she is contemplating than just worrying about the weapon chosen.

Edit here is another school tragedy with some of the after stories. An incident like this has only happened once and that was once too often.

A brief comment on what happened after the kindergarten incident in Dunblane . Maybe read to the part about the Olympic Gold Medal before you comment.
