Why Am I Getting Violation Notices?
Four times in the last two weeks I have had points removed and violation notifications. I've been on YA for over three years. I've accumulated almost 67,000 points while receiving almost 3,000 best answers. I mostly answer sports questions and frequently have top contributor badges in basketball and baseball. In the three+ years I've been on YA, I've only had one answer removed prior to this. That was for making a joke on a golf question. I don't use profanity, I don't badmouth other users, I'm not vulgar, I don't spam, I don't have 10 friends who have agreed to vote for me, I only have one account and frequently vote for someone who I think has given a better answer than me. Yet people get away with these things all the time.
Four times this month I've had violation notices for my answers with no explanation except that my answer had been reported by the Yahoo Answers Community. Why is this happening to me now? These are the questions and answers to them.
Right now Kobe Bryant should win the NBA MVP. He's simply amazing. Who agrees with me?
Answer:Right now he's leading his team to the 20th best record in the NBA. Amazing? Not!
Could everyone please vote for me so I can receive free bowl tickets?
Answer: I never vote for people who beg me to vote for them. (This was voted best answer by 40% of the voters)
Why are the Lakers losing to inferior teams?
Answer: Ever think maybe it's the Lakers who are inferior?
Is Andrew Bynum the definition of an injured player?
No. Greg Oden.
I appealed each answer, but have not had any feedback from the moderators. Can someone answer for me what community standard I violated with any of these answers? Also, do these violations put me at any risk of having my YA account suspended? Nothing here makes any sense to me. And shouldn't the violation notice give you a warning as to why your answer was inappropriate. Thanks for your feedback.

Your answers are not violations, and should not have been reported.
The first two of those *questions* are violations (the first for "Chat"; the second for "Solicitation").
However, a violating question does not automatically make the *answers* violations (with some exceptions).
The basic rule for answers, is that they must answer the question that is asked.
Your answers *do* answer the questions asked.
Some members are under the mistaken impression that all answers to violating questions are violations, themselves; that would be why you received violations for those two answers.
Answer #3: "Ever think maybe it's the Lakers who are inferior?"
Some members are under the mistaken impression, that any answer ending in a question mark, is a violation. Other members mistakenly believe that you must agree with an asker.
One of those reasons would be why you received a violation for that answer.
There is no explanation as to why you received a violation for the fourth answer.
"Also, do these violations put me at any risk of having my YA account suspended?"
That would depend on how those violations were *categorized*, when reported.
For example: Someone could report your answers as "Spam", and delete them, even though that would be a miscategorization.
Since you have not received an answer to your appeal, it would remain on your account as "Spam".
They could also mis-report your answers as ToS (Terms of Service) violations, which are very serious violations, indeed.
IF your answers were reported as "Chat" or some other minor violation, then, no, you wouldn't be in danger of being suspended.
"And shouldn't the violation notice give you a warning as to why your answer was inappropriate."
We are expected to read, understand, and follow the Community Guidelines (rules), so they feel no explanation is necessary.
ALSO, sometimes, reporters type silly reasons for reporting, like "Peanut Butter".
Then, a user would receive a notice saying that the reason he received a violation is: Peanut Butter!
Customer Care has such a huge backlog of appeals, they have simply stopped responding to them all.
This is certainly unfair to you, and to all Y!A members who deserve a response and deserve to have appeals upheld.
*NOTE: The second Q & A pair is extremely borderline. My recommendation is to not respond to any solicitation, in future.
Word of Warning: Stay out of the Basketball category right now, if possible. There is someone who is maliciously reporting non-violations in that category.
Finally... you need to email the YAT (Yahoo Answers Team), and ask them to help you:
y_answrs_team_uk@yahoo.co.uk
The missing 'e' is correct. It is fine to email the UK team, even if in US.
Provide a *brief* (not so long-winded) explanation, and the URLs to your deleted questions.
Good luck.

Here are the reasons they are being reported:
1. Any "do you agree" question is going to be called chatting and answering will be considered chat
2. Not a question, so there is no answer possible, so your post is not an answer
3. Not a proper answer. You are basically not providing any useful information, just using a question as an answer.
4. Again, the question is a chat violation.
Whether anyone agrees, that is why they got reported. Only appealing would tell you if the staff agree. However, it seems that you need to stay away from question that are violations to begin with. They can only get you in trouble. Many are posted by trolls and if you disagree, they will report you since your answer is probably also a violation.

It seems to be part of a general pattern lately. In a number of sections, various types of misuse (for the most part, chat) have been the norm in the past. For whatever reason - more reporters, more high-trust reporters, maybe Y!A have tweaked the reporting algorithm - these sections are getting a lot more reporting, and a lot more effective reports leading to deletion.
Of the examples you give:
* Who agrees with me? - chat, and replying to it is chat.
* Could everyone please vote for me so I can receive free bowl tickets? - solicitation, and replying to it is chat
* Why are the Lakers losing to inferior teams? - OK. But "Ever think maybe it's the Lakers who are inferior?" - non-answer, since disagreeing with the premise of the question is not an answer to the question asked.
I very much doubt if a handful of minor violations will get you suspended. And yes, it would be helpful if violation notices gave a reason, but the report form doesn't store that information, except optional details for Y!A eyes only. It's regularly suggested on the Suggestion Board that the report system ought to have a multiple-choice setup (e.g. chat / rant / etc).

You too eh? I had a recent new violation to greet me while I opened my mail. I've had violations on funny solutions additionally. I do not trouble attractive anymore, you simply meet with a brick wall besides. It does not subject how good you reply a query, there's constantly anyone that's cause comfortable with the violation button. Yes surely darken the R&S doorstep now that you've got a few violations beneath your belt. Those that deliver violations for no cause are simply workout that little little bit of vigour they do have - considering they may be able to. Have a satisfactory day.

First of all, you got too many violations for your answers that failed to supply the facts demanded by the askers. Remember the Community Guidelines clearly stipulated there must always be an attempt to answer questions asked by other users.
Second, your answers were deleted after other users reported them for not properly answering them. All of them are just mere opinions that doesn't benefit the asker and the Answers community in general.
Third, appealing the violations wasn't a very smart idea. Customer Care will uphold the violations and assess 10 points in each case. Simple as that.
Fourth, and lastly, you being repeatedly reported will result in your account be reviewed. Any violation you have incurred recently can be used against you during the review process. That can warrant its suspension without warning. The violation notice emails are already a warning to cease any and all violations immediately. Consider all of that as a heads-up and a wake-up call to quit breaking the rules.

There are some great responses on here, so I'll be brief... If you disagree with some people, they're going to report you, especially if you show them up. I'd stick to answering questions from trusted contacts for a while to take yourself off of the radar.
Bottom line, you're being targeted due to your standing on YA by some users and by those who are pouting that you are disagreeing with them. Seems counterintuitive seeing as people that disagree with you often shed light topics and allow you to see things from a different perspective.

You are getting violation noticed because you are being reported. If I were you, I'd stop answering questions that are violations, I'd stop answering questions with another question as well. And I wouldn't post questions that are rants.
Every violation notice is a warning, so of course they count against you and you can have your account suspended.

I feel for you, that orange bar is a big target for some people I guess. Been in your shoes awhile back, lost the whole account, now I avoid the orange bar like the plague.
