School shooting rumor? I'm kind of scared...?

I'm probably worried over nothing... :s

But yesterday on the PA, the principal said that there was this rumor going around that some kid is going to bring a gun to school on Friday and start shooting. They don't believe it, but just in case, they're getting some police men to guard / walk around school, and we'll be on lock down the whole day.

Like... normally I don't believe rumors, but something this serious... I'm... kinda scared (especially since the Connecticut school shooting just happened).

I'm debating if I should go to school on Friday or not. I have a test on that day, so I want to go so I don't have to take it when Christmas Break ends, but I also want to stay home, so I know I'll be safe... (and if nothing happens, I'll feel bad since I stayed home for nothing. ><)

I just... don't know what to do or think about this anymore... Have any of you been in this kind of situation before? I think it might help me a little...

    If you feel unsafe to be there, do not go. The school will understand. Have your parents tell them that you are sick. Just don't go. Rather safe then sorry.

    Stupid kids are always making bomb threats and starting stuff like this. If one could find the person doing this and give him about half an hour of knuckle drill, it would soon stoop.

    I would go to school but be very aware of your surroundings. It's never a bad thing to have an emergency plan. I have one everywhere i go

    And what if the neighbour across the street goes crazy that day, and starts firing on your house with his assault rifle. Your country is just gun crazy - eventually you will all be holed up in your bunkers taking pot shots at the neighbours.

    It's just a rumor. Pay no attention to it, and hope that Obama does not institute gun control. If he does, only criminals will have guns and you will be helpless.

    the person who was gonna shoot people wouldn't tell them

    and if they have got police then you have nothing to be worried about

I was a patrol officer for 4 years in a very diverse area. I was a tactical officer in the high rise project areas of my city. We called it vertical patrol in that we walked the the stairways of the high rises most of the time. I did that for 5 years and was promoted by test to detective. I worked violent crime (homicide, sex, officer involved shootings, robbery, kidnapping, serious non property incidents) for 11 years until I was promoted to sergeant. I worked as a street supervisor, a bicycle patrol supervisor and a desk sergeant/watch commander. During my time as a tactical officer and a detective I was a unit representative for the police union. I have a B.A in English and an M.S. in Law Enforcement Administration....
