decision made on social security benefit?

A decision has been made on my social retirement benefit, not SSA, just regular retirement.

Why is it I can not find out what decision was made except by mail, or is there any other way

other than calling or waiting for the mail to arrive to find out. My agent said all paperwork

was in order and that the decision has been mailed, but why can't I find out sooner. Does anyone

know a secret to find out what the decision is, or is it normally approved when no other questions

by the agent has been asked after saying all paperwork received is in order.

The vast majority of retirement claims are approved but not all of them are. For example I denied lots of claims which were filed by officers of family corporations who were not really retired but were deferring compensation for their services to be paid at a later date or who were "hiding" their earnings under something other than wages. Some claims were denied because the person turned out to be younger than age 62. Many claims were denied because a person wasn't insured. There aren't a whole lot of reasons why a retirement claim would be denied and unless you are an officer of a corporation you probably would have been told if you wouldn't be entitled to a benefit.

So what's your big hurry? Social Security is swamped by applications from baby boomers and they are inundated with disability claims. They also process survivor claims and claims for Medicare entitlement, they do work and medical investigations, overpayments and appeals on everything imaginable, payee applications, fraud development and who knows what else. Your claims rep is busy. And they spend at least 80% of their time interviewing.

Leave them alone and let them get their work done. When the claim is processed you will receive a notice which will tell you if your claim has been approved or denied. If approved it will give you your month of entitlement and your monthly benefit amount. If denied it will tell you why and you will have 60 days in which to appeal the decision.
