Should churches be taxed on money they collect?

TV evangelist Perry Stone is stating our county will go bankrupt if they continue giving food stamps, and other free services. I believe if our country would tax all money given to churches and TV evangelism then our country could get out of debt very quickly.

All churches should be taxed as any other business. All pastors, priests, rabbis etc should be subject to income tax like anyone else. Some churches are involved in charities and expenses on those charities should be tax deductible but they should be taxed on the rest. TV evangelists should be taxed twice what anyone else is paying.

If the USA wanted to save some money and get out of debt quickly they could cut the military budget by 10-15% but that is never going to happen.

Absolutely not. People pride themselfs on attending church and giving out money to a great cause that they know the taxman does not get a cent. Tithings and donations help keep great churches stay viable and do great thing for the community. sure you won't agree with everything a church does with member tithings but overall they do good. Both spirituall and the community.

churches are non profit...which means tax exempt. Now, Perry Stone makes quite a bit of money personally and he pays taxes on that income

I doubt by taxing a small amount of money will help bring us out of recession. If that were true, we'd just inject a couple millioin into the economy.

The church collects over 2Billion dollars a month - most goes on fast cars, big houses.

So yes they should pay tax.

Yeah they really should. How about this if they can prove they really are nonprofit they can be exempt. Like the rest of us, They should have to file basic taxes
