How to obtain a copy of your social security card?

I was born in ga but I've been living in ct for 4 years now and I need a copy of my social security card. Can I go to social security on ct to get one or do I have to contact ga?

You go to your nearest social security office. Cards are not issued locally but from a central location and it takes ten to fourteen workdays from the date they process your request before you can expect to receive it. And go to ssa.gov to find out what original documents you must have in order to get a replacement card - they do not accept photocopies of documents. When you get your replacement card do NOT carry it around with you. It is an important document and should be kept at home with other important documents and used only when necessary. Memorize your number if you haven't already done so. Anyone who carries their card around with them is just asking to have their identity stolen.

Social Security office hours are 9am-3pm Monday thru Friday except national holidays. Effective Jan 1, 2013 they will no longer be open Wednesday afternoons.
