I want to be an artist...but my parents won't allow it?

hi, i'm a junior in high school and i've faced a point in my life where i've realized that i want to choose art as my major and as my career.

i don't know how i decided upon this, but i've feel that this is my final choice.

the thing is my parents are very strict and traditional asian parents. They would literally kick me out of their lives or refuse to pay for art school if i were to go.

they think that art is something i can do on the side, but i don't think they understand.

Art is more than a hobby for me, it is really a part of my life in which i would rather die than be cut off from it. I really do feel like i've developed into a stage where i have a much broader and deeper spiritual connection with my pieces. I just want to do it for the rest of my life...

i'm beginning to feel very stressed with this situation and i just don't know how my future is going to work out...

What everyone said here is true. It's harder to find a job as an artist than an accountant. But, that doesn't mean you can't study it or pursue it for the rest of your life.

I think you should start off with a double major, in art and in something else that will make your parents proud. Overtime, after the first year of college, you can keep on going doing the double major or choose one that you think is best for you and the other one as a minor.

I would also suggest a University that has a very strong arts department. Honestly, the chances of a breakthrough as an artist is a very low percentage. It could be a side job. Maybe you can teach art at a high school or be a professor at an arts school.

This is where real life runs headlong into your life goals.

You probably know people in your school who like to drive a car very fast.

That doesn't mean that that is the only thing they should be doing.

There are other work and life skills they should learn.

The fact that your parents, who probably can SEE that you are a gifted artist don't agree with your desires, doesn't mean that rebellion is the path to follow.

They have much more life experience than you do, and life experience usually develops into some amount of wisdom.

Unless your family is the kind where the word the parents is final law and cannot be changed, then sitting and talking with them to find out their desires for your life will possibly give you some idea of why they don't want you to pursue art only at this time.

It would be wiser for you to work with your parents to decide your path, than to fight with them and have a much harder life path than necessary.

You're very good at art, as one can see from your gallery, so why not try for a scholarship and/or pay for it yourself? When you're 18 (in the USA at least) you are legally allowed to make your own decisions. You MUST follow your heart; you really should; don't waste your life doing something you don't enjoy; however, you must have a backup plan. I am a musician, and I definitely understand how you feel with art. I'd rather have my legs cut off, go blind, whatever.. just dont take me away from my instruments or music.

Again, nothing is stopping you. You are talented, so you should try for a scholarship.

i'm an atheist, politically professional-determination yet for my section professional-existence. i'm pregnant wonderful now with my fourth infant. i circulate in for an ultrasound on Thursday, to reveal screen for actual indicators of Downs and different genetic anomalies. If the tech sees any actual manifestations, the well being care provider will order blood exams and/or an amnio to supply a distinctive result. My husband and that i could by no ability terminate the being pregnant whether the infant has Downs. no count what, it is the infant we created jointly and we like it and prefer it. i won't think of every person terminating a being pregnant because of the fact it isn't the infant they imagined or was hoping for -- the infant you're making is your duty. we are happy to do the screening because of the fact if there might desire to be a undertaking provided to us by utilising our infant's well being, the faster we can practice for it the greater suitable. If we would desire to outfit the nursery for a definite needs infant, we can. we would additionally connect help communities only before time and learn all shall we from different mom and dad. the assumption of "culling" out undesirables from the gene pool is repulsive. we at the instant are not suitable as persons, we at the instant are not suitable as a species. we are people, and between the terrific issues people can do is look after people who like it. .

You're not really being realistic here. Do you really think that you can make enough money to support yourself being an artist?

What you could do is find a career related to art such, or do something else but continue to do art when are older.
