Isn't it interesting that conservatives now want to focus on "mental health"?

Especially when they have done everything they could to stop health care legislation. Seems to me they are willing to direct the focus in any direction they find convenient, especially away from gun control legislation.

Update:

If you really believe that Penelope, you are an idiot. Japan had 20 gun related murders last year.

Update 2:

welfare-- No, I'm just against hypocrites!

    so you oppose mental HC?

you can focus on gun control all you want. big waste of time since the 2nd amendment is on my side.

i also want to point out that Columbine happened during democrats last "assault weapons" ban.

It's like they think we won't remember what they've been saying and doing for years. They aren't serious of course, they're just trying to change the conversation and prevent any effective gun legislation.

I notice the derp has stepped up and Republicans are now introducing "arm teachers" legislation instead of coming to the table in good faith to talk about laws we can make that won't breech 2nd amdnt but will lower gun homicide. Okay, then. The crazier they act the more it will turn off all the sane people and the quicker they lose power (talk about not learning from the election).

Focus on it? No. Is that the reason for the mass shooting? Yes. You also misunderstand the main problem with mental healthcare. It's that unless you can prove they're a danger to themselves or others you cannot force them to get help. Adam Lanza's mother couldn't although she was trying I guess. Further, government mental asylums' were horrifying places. Cost cutting was not the fault of Republicans only. Democratic Congress/Republican President and visa versa caused it.

As far as welfare goes, many people with mental health issues can and should be helped. The last thing we need is to keep sending money to people who had ten kids when they couldn't afford to care for the first.

Guess you must be too young to remember when republican governors closed state run mental hospitals.Literally putting mental patients out on the street!

Then they wonder why we have so many homeless now!

I don't know. Maybe because so many of them are now aware that Obama's new healthcare plan covers pre-existing conditions?
