Can I drive on a spare tire in winter weather?

My back right tire went completely flat & came off the bead because I unknowingly drove my car to work with it like that. I had to buy a new tire & rim, but the rim is being shipped from Kansas City & won't be here until tomorrow. We are getting hit with a big winter storm today, tonight, & tomorrow morning. Will I be able to drive on my spare in this?

Put it on a non-drive wheel (if FWD put it on rear, RWD put it on front, etc).

You are going to trade steering for being able to accelerate, however in snowy conditions that you HAVE to get around in, I would make that tradeoff. Steering is more important than acceleration, however on a 2WD vehicle, most are actually one wheel drive (open differential), and that is the wheel with the LEAST traction. Obviously a spare is going to be the least tractive tire on the vehicle, and it will always be spinning in even the slightest slippery conditions.

Since most spares say right on them "under 50MPH only" (check yours) and on a one wheel drive the spinning tire is actually spinning twice as fast the speedometer says, if the speedometer says 25MPH, the tire is already at its "maximum" MPH. It takes almost nothing on an open differential car in snow/ice to spin the driven wheel, I've taken mine up to 80MPH on the speedometer lol.

If your spare is one of those little donut spares, make sure it's on the rear if you have a front wheel drive car. *Stay home if you have a rear wheel drive car. Little donut tires are only supposed to be driven a very limited number of miles.

Well, you can- it's certainly not optimal. If the rim is still in rough shape, you may wind up doing worse damage to your car.

If you are getting your car fixed somewhere, do they have any loaners they can lend to you? That would be the best option.

sure you can drive on the spare but don,t speed with it ! those donut tires are only for an emergency ! the other 3 tires should hold your car on snowy roads !

If you're talking about those little "donut" spares, I wouldn't try using it on snow. Heck I don't like using them on dry pavement and I get my wheel fixed as soon as possible.

It is risky to use on a spare tire. Because it is harmful to your car and suspension kit in your car. Best of luck........

It's not ideal but yes you can. Just remember that it's on your vehicle and drive with extra care.
