Is co- axial an analog or digital connection?

    I believe what you're asking is about the coaxial digital input for digital audio. It is a digital connection, and you can use it to hook up any device that supports a coaxial digital output to connect your audio only. A lot of devices have optical and coaxial digital audio outputs.

    A coax cable can carry analog, digital or both signals simultaneously. You really need to know what the device specifications are.

    On a stereo receiver it is likely digital.
