How do I clean up images in photoshop?
I saw this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ShR6Rr4HU. Look at 5:15. I remember a gave a friend a picture of my parents to restore using photoshop. He did that step at 5:15 to clean up the image but I never learned how to do it. Can someone please show me how to do it? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

The video is most likely a simulation. It appears that the individual elements on the image are on separate layers and that the paper colored background is being "cleaned up". This could simply be the eraser tool working on a separate layer. Notice that the printed elements are not changed as the brush goes over them.
Your photo would not have had layers and many retouchers do not use the eraser tool - preferring to create layer masks and "paint" their retouching on the masks.
The Spot Healing Brush, Healing Brush, and Clone Stamp Tool are all used to clean up old photos during restoration.
