Does it hurt to get braces?

So I am a teenager and I have crooked teeth. First I thought I might not need braces and my teeth would move themselves and get better, but gradually it's not getting better, it's actually getting worse coz my teeth are starting to overlap each other. My mother wants me to get braces, and I think it's a good idea. But does it hurt? What does it feel like? How long does it take? Do they have to make gaps in your teeth first? Do they move teeth in place and then put on the braces? Do they use the numbing cream thing? How long do you have to wear braces for? I dunno if I should get braces, are there any negatives of getting braces? Useful answers please, wise, wise, wise internet masters. Thank you for your time, I appreciate it :)

When they put them on, they don't physically move your theeth and then put wires to hold them their. They use something called a memory wire. It always goes back how they set it so when they put on on your teeth, it gradually pushes them into place. Getting them on doesnt hurt at all, but before you get them you get spacers. Spacers are little bands the put in between your molars to create space for the braces bands. These might make you feel slight pressure and be sore.

There aren't really any negatives for braces, but when you first get them and when you get them tightened, they will be sore. Take ibuprofen of another painkiller and eat soft foods.

As I've said, it doesn't hurt when you get them put on, so there isn't a need for numbing meds. Most people have braces for 2-3 years and it takes about an hour to get them on.

If you do get them, make sure to clean them well so you don't have spots on your teeth where the brackets were. And when you get them taken on, WEAR YOUR RETAINER :D. It keeps your teeth from moving into their original position.

You should get braces(: They aren't bad and let you have a beautiful smile. Set up a consultation with an orthodontist and they can discuss treatment plans, pricing, and answer a lot of your questions.

It can hurt a little but, but not as much as you think. It can feel a little sore when you first get them on, but you will get used to them in about 3 days. Usually, appointments for when you are first getting your braces on last about and hour and a half. Most of the time, they give you spacers to put small gaps in your teeth so your brace ring can fit around your tooth. They do not move you teeth at the appointments. Your braces will soon start to maybe change your teeth to make them straighter, so when that happens, there is nothing to worry about! When I got my braces, they did not give me any numbing cream... So I don't know if they would use that or not. For most people, you have to wear braces for about 2 years. There can be negatives about getting braces but there are mostly positive things for getting your braces. I truly recommend that you get braces, and you will see once you get them off, how beautiful your smile will be! I hope my information helped you decide for your braces!

Braces may hurt for the first 4-7days once they're on, but just remember to eat soft foods that require little or no chewing like custard, fruit puree, soup, noodles and take painkillers when you really need it.

It will depend on how bad your teeth are and how quickly your teeth decide to move while having braces on, so you could have them on for a year and a bit or 3yrs.

They will put spacers in to make a little room to put the band around each of your back molars and apparently that hurts.

Negatives about braces is you really have to look after them well and by that I mean, watch what you eat by avoiding toffee, really chewy foods, biting into apples (although you can cut them up and eat them that way). Also clean your braces well because it will show up when you get them off about how well you have looked after them.

Look braces are a good thing because they will straighten up your teeth and just think, that you may not have as many problems once you get them off plus you will have a gorgeous smile :)

The orthodontist will tell you everything you need to know about looking after your braces when you get them, and as along as you follow those instructions, you will be fine.

Good the brackets will suppose weird while you first get your braces placed on considering that your gums won't be used to having something rubbing in opposition to it. They maybe scraping your gums just a little, so be sure to use wax to put on them. (ask your orthodontist for some) good... Braces can also be lovely painful when you first get them on, however they don't seem to be bad after that. The one other time it hurts is when you get a new wire and probably your first tightening or two. Hope this helps!

Well first of all, yes it does hurt for a couple days. However, that is not an excuse not to get them, and crooked teeth can cause severe health problems in the future.
