For more neutral shades, I love ones by Bare Minerals. They've stepped up their game in the past few years, and some of their loose shadows are absolutely gorgeous. They cost about $15 each, but will last you for at least a year, with every day use. They range from super shimmery to matte, and the shimmer shades are my favorite. True Gold (i think that's what it's called) is a gorgeous shimmering gold that looks amazing on the lid, for example.
I really like some shadows from MAC. They have unique, vibrant colors that blend really well and a very big variety of colors to choose from, some very unique that you won't see anywhere else, and are also about $15, so not too expensive. Plus they have Back2MAC, so when you use up five eyeshadows you can get a free one. They also give out samples of loose pigment eyeshadows, so make sure to ask if you have a store near by. The loose powder lasts a long time, so a sample is good enough to last you for 5 or so applications (depending on how much they give you, and of what color you choose).
Wet N Wild does have good eyeshadows as well, that are easy to find and cheap, which doesn't mean low quality. The eyeshadow trios are really nice, and have a good selection. The pigmentation is good for most, but some shades can be very lacking. But when you only pay like $3 for three eyeshadows, it's really not much to complain about.
The last one I recommend is the Too Face palettes. The Neutral/Naked Eye one is so awesome. I use it every day. They sell a lot of variants in it too, so you can choose from a neutral eye, to a romantic eye, or a super dark smokey eye. They're really good quality and very easy to blend. They're a great investment for something to reach for if you're looking for a routine, go-to eye if you're short on time or don't want to do anything else that day.

The Balm is great.
NYX is great.
I really think those two brands are GEMS that are often overlooked. Price is between drugstore and high-end, but such incredible quality and shades. *swoons*
I own a lot of Clinique because I went through that phase, and they are good, but not worth anywhere near what I paid for them. Though I would give my eye teeth or my first-born for the original TouchBase--that was a truly unique and wonderful product. *swoons*
I have a lot of MAC shadows that are all just "meh". Given the price, they are nothing special at all. Nice colors, sure. Formula can be easily duplicated in cheaper brands.
Urban Decay is not all it's cracked up to be at all. Lovely shades? Yes. Formula has fall out and I paid too much for that to happen.
The crazy bargain eyeshadow? Wet N Wild. I know. It seems like they would be crap, but they are comparable to many high-end brands in most colors. They have trios for $2.99 and 8 color palettes that are $4.99. They are crazy good! Many, many high-end shade dupes among them as well, and often with better formulas.
I you want to look at cream eyeshadows, Maybelline Color Tattoo is quite hard to beat. Love them,

i'd say mac in case you want those eyeshadows. I wasted money on different eyeshadows earlier and that i continually go back to mac in spite of the indisputable fact that it really is so expensive. darkish black will be carbon for positive. i imagine Nylon is a useful shimmery gold color for mac.

I have everything from Mac to Urban Decay to smashbox, and my new favorite is Wet and Wild comfort zone pallet. The colors are beautiful they are so pigmented you barley tap your brush in them and they wear all day with no creasing. I use Elf shadow primer first. I was skeptical about buying such cheap makeup but its amazing.

MAC has a great color selection and great pigmentation
Urban Decay Does too.
I however prefer Urban Decay's shadows for their texture and long lasting color!

Lancome & MAC have fantastic pigmentation.
Make sure you are using a primer that will help boost color (not to mention it will keep it on longer & keep it from creasing!)

Honestly I want to say MAC but E.L.F are just better in my opinion. Weird considering the price difference, right?
