If the sim works properly in another phone, but it doesn't work in yours, the problem is your phone. Sounds like the software needs to be reloaded. Call your provider ON ANOTHER PHONE and get them to show you how to reload the operating system; you'll probably have to do it via wi-fi since you can't get any bars on your phone.

Your sim MUST be in your phone for this to work; call on a land line, or on a friend's phone.

If you don't have another phone, then you're going to have to take it into a brick-and-mortar store for your cellular provider. You should be able to locate one near you online on your computer or someone else's phone.
